Lots of people just got their Oscars tube fix in the last couple of hours. Ellen was funny, JLaw fell again, before getting to the red carpet, the stars took an epic selfie, and I knew Matthew McConaughey would bring home Best Actor.

Along with that, we beauty bugs always only pretty much await a certain segment of the whole event that isn’t even part of the main program, of course, the red carpet arrivals. It’s where we finally get to see our beloved stars in an open space from top to toe in full swag. It’s also where these actors get their faces mercilessly peppered with flash photography while the sun is setting. Red carpet makeup is a professional makeup artist’s ultimate challenge because today with social media and smartphones, not one mistake stands a chance. Read more to see the photos and find out who were the 5 actresses I thought had the best overall hair and makeup.
I just picked these five faces based on who looked most fresh and improved overall in MY opinion. Their bases in particular to me were thin enough not to distract but had enough coverage to mask flaws and lift their faces for the evening. In short, I see more of them than their makeup. Tell me in the comments among these 5 lovely ladies whose look do you like the most and why? TOP TO BOTTOM: Cate Blanchett, Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong’o, Jennifer Lawrence, and Naomi Watts.
The ever timeless CATE BLANCHETT never needs a lot of makeup to look great, just intense emphasis on the eyes, polished looking skin, and a neat fresh lip. There always needs to be a balance for the overall look to impress, in this case her hair does more for the look and the makeup just ties it all together. Her Armani Prive sleeveless dress is already quite stunning.
With ANGELINA JOLIE it’s always about the intense smoky eye and nude lips. This look for her never fails to work, though I’ll admit I was a bit underwhelmed by her hair I think it just puts the message out there that she’s more relaxed at her age right now. She sparkles in an Elie Saab gown. The same makeup combo works for me because I kind of have huge lips, too, and tend to prefer natural lip shades more often. I’m also always trying to make my eyes look more awake
LUPITA NYONG’O was the Oscar sweetheart of the night who took home Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave, and guess what, she took it home for her FIRST acting job fresh out of Yale Drama School. Now, this is one blessed young lady. She floated across the red carpet with a hairdo and Prada gown shade that reminded us of Cinderella. Her deep chocolate toned skin is already such a gorgeous shade so she had minimal makeup which consisted of fresh dewy skin accented with intensity focused on brows, lashes, and a pink balmy lip.
JENNIFER LAWRENCE fell AGAIN! However this time she kept her clumsiness to the red carpet where she failed to spot an orange cone in her path and it caused her to trip over once more. She cackled into the air upon being helped up (as seen on E!) as if to say “Can you believe me?”. As usual she laughed it off then conquered cameras in an orange-y red Dior gown. She wore her makeup fresh with some dark eyeliner and had a medium pink lip.
It was NAOMI WATTS’ dress by Calvin Klein that I noticed got a lot of attention on several sites already. While some were underwhelmed with her makeup I thought it was one of the most perfect looks of the evening. I might have chosen a red lipstick that was slightly brighter but the classic brick red lip also suits the overall simple elegance of her gown. I thought her base and the level of contouring and amount of powder used was just spot on for the evening and the blush used on her is noticeable but doesn’t shout.
There’s a line of restraint that exists in showbiz makeup because you are making someone who is already beautiful even more beautiful (he/she should be even more beautiful after the makeup is on or there’s no point to it). So when I chose which female stars in my opinion had the best makeup on I wasn’t just looking at the makeup, I was looking at them overall. Be sure to tell me in the comments which look among these five appeals to you the most and why
