This “Kawaii” Tube Squeezer | A Daiso Php88 Non-Beauty Favorite

It’s amazing how something as simple as a tube squeezer can sort of brighten up your day, because it does what it’s supposed to…while being cute.  It’s on a roll today, duly delivering kawaii satisfaction and being cheap at the same time.  It also does not fail to tickle my fancy while being crystal pink.

The squeeze power on this is moderate, some people like the steel tube squeezers that would totally squeeze the life out of aluminum itself.  This would still do the job on aluminum tubes from brands like Antipodes and Aesop, though it won’t leave behind the flattened corrugation a steel squeezer would.  I prefer this and appreciate that this tube squeezer isn’t metal because the extremely high humidity here at home rusts and corrodes most metal objects over time even if they are stainless sometimes.  If I had the metal version, cool, but I’d have to keep it in a humidity-free box.  For the price, Php88 (or was it 66? either way happy pa din) at Daiso this tube squeezer is a good one.  It also comes in other colors, if I’m not mistaken I think I saw a crystal mint, and crystal lavender or apricot.

The Imaginary Vday Wishlist | If Price or Place Were No Object

Where we are can kind of suck sometimes when it comes to stuff at the frontier of modern beauty.  While I’m glad more brands have joined the global ones already present in the market, the ranges are far from updated and nowhere near as complete, hello, Clarins doesn’t even have their makeup here, we only have the skincare.  Where is is this rambling headed?  Towards an imaginary Vday wishlist…life of course goes on without any of these things but I thought I’d put this selection out there for you to see as an imaginary edit…what I’d like if price or place where no object.

Processed with VSCOcam

Top to Bottom: Paloma Picasso for Tiffany’s Handwritten Love ring (Mom has her petite “X” earrings in yellow gold), Whistles Mini Verity backpack black leather, Sunday Riley Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil, Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens, Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in “Amazing Grace”Clarins Instant ConcealerReturn to Tiffany Rubedo heart earrings, Clarins Instant Light Lip comfort oil (seen here in the Original and ever elusively sold out Raspberry formula)

I was also thinking about Tiffany & Co. the 5th Avenue jewelry hotspot I wasn’t able to hit while in NYC.  I don’t mean I wish there was one here, I wasn’t able to go in the US.  I didn’t have any plans to purchase anything from there, the visit was supposed to be like a tour in honor of a memory.  I wanted to have a peep inside and then have a foodtruck breakfast outside and take a selfie, there’s always a next time.  I know, it would have been such a touristy thing to do but here’s why.  It was the one place there which would supposedly remind me of my paternal grandmother the most.  She would tell me stories of how she loved the place while we watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s together.  Lola said when she was there it was not always to buy, but she loved the staff, the service, and appreciating the precious beautifully feminine pieces they had there.  She also sang Moon River along with me passionately, it was the only song I’d ever heard her sing like that…once in awhile she would also hum Claire de Lune or Nat King Cole songs.  Her eyes used to light up like gems before at the mention of Tiffany’s.  Also did you know, I heard from someone married to a Tiffany executive that Tiffany’s only offer a major half price discount once, on a person’s first engagement ring purchase, it’s a discount that will not be offered again in the same lifetime precisely because they like to honor that value. I’ll go through my other faves in quick random, no-order, this-is-my-blog style today, coz I’m just not in the mood to be like super structured right now, have work later and tomorrow and haven’t eaten breakfast.

For style I’m sure like half the female planet is already making the Whistles Mini Verity backpack that Zoella “showed and told” online a major sellout, who won’t like its simple, small but just rightly sized real leather design?  I believe there’s a silver version which might be an ASOS exclusive if I saw it right.  Regarding the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L camera lens it’s Canon’s priciest 50mm with their widest opening, meaning it’s awesome for close-up shots with beautifully boke’d backgrounds and great for low light…in other words a beauty blogger’s dream lens.  As you can see in this sample photo:

vdafave_canonBy the way, I like that Charlotte Tilbury lipstick not just because of the name, if you click on the CT link you will see the color “Amazing Grace” is just gorgeous, a more modern, more neutral coral with less of a yellow undertone.  Sunday Riley does modern skincare and they do the science battle with botanical weapons of mass reconstruction.  Juno is one of their more gentle facial oils which they say consists of extracts from Broccoli, Carrot, Chardonnay Grape, Black Cumin, Cranberry Seed and a berry seed blend of blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry.  Yea, I’ll take my face to-go please.  On the Clarins stuff, if you haven’t heard Guardian beauty guru Sali Hughes say “I can’t rave about this concealer enough” about Clarins’ Instant Concealer in that wonderful Brit accent of hers then you should on her SaliHughesBeauty channel, that was ’bout before Christmas last year.  Then Caroline Hirons, skincare madame, flashed that new Lip comfort oil  of theirs at her camera in her recent New Stuff video and the dim part of the world (like over here) without Clarins’ newest releases semi went gaga.

Do you have an imaginary Vday wishlist?  Or one probably that hangs around all year in the fluffy cloud above your head?  Mention one or two things you wish for in the comments whether it’s because you can’t get it here or can’t afford it at the moment.  I can’t make your wish come true but I do know that sharing wishes with other people is a happy sort of release.… To full post & COMMENTS...

ZOEVA Makeup Brushes, That Is All | The Luxe Complete Set

Zoella raved about these, Lily Pebbles did the same, and NikkieTutorials, a PRO makeup artist and YouTuber didn’t hesitate to say that they were better overall in her opinion than Sigma brushes or MAC brushes (most likely in the context of value for money).  I was almost tempted to say they were like Europe’s answer to Sigma brushes, but when Zoeva Cosmetics sent me my own Luxe Complete Brush Set to review, I changed my mind.  They look and feel better and quality looks more consistent across.  With Zoeva $60-$80 USD goes a long way, you can get already get a budget set.  The set I was sent though is about EUR105 because it’s a larger range with 15 brushes.  Plus you know the well-known habit of German made things lasting longer than your lifetime?  Throw that knowledge together with the look of this professional brush range and you’ve certainly got yourself a major contender in terms of performance in application.  No I haven’t tried them with products just yet but already just by their appearance, feel, and my professional experience I already know they’ll do excellently on the job.

An exquisite selection of 15 of our finest brushes, made from a custom blend of natural and synthetic bristles. EUR105

As a blogger, a few months back I actually browsed through the Zoeva site since the brush sets were gaining sparkling reviews at an amazing rate following the brand’s debut across several YouTube channels.  It was there that I saw a “blogger” related tab and saw that you could actually propose that they send you stuff to review if they screen your blog, stats, and approve the quality of your site.  My site and traffic stats were screened and I was told that I qualified after a month and that they would send me the products of my choice after another month.  I may have a second post on this set feature a look where I actually use all the brushes.  Read more to have a closer look at my favorite brushes from the set and see one separate brush I also chose for them to send me because it was necessary.… To full post & COMMENTS...

Cray Cray for Cases | RTW Phone Swag by HeadCase UK

I was kinda “down” and semi “out” for the last two days.  I had a sore throat and slight fever on Christmas day and symptoms ballooned the following morning.  Thanks to rest, lots of juice, a massage, and some paracetamol it didn’t get any worse and I’m better now.  I did a bit of browsing on Ebay over two weeks ago and decided to give in to the holiday offers phone case makers HeadCase had via their online store E-cell Global (“e_cell” on Ebay).  Regular price is about $8 per case, but with their holiday discount and FREE shipping offer I paid quite a bit less, nearly half price for all in fact.  To be clear, Head Case phone cases are designed in the UK and outsourced to be printed here in the Philippines.  What I like is I didn’t receive standard postal notices for these anymore even though they were FREE shipping.  They delivered my orders all together directly to mom’s office in Fort.  I initially chose four then added the Ariel surfing princess a couple of days later.

Can you tell by my SURFING PRINCESS case that I’ve stocked up on phone swag for summer?  Ariel splits her tail just to surf?  Yes, please!  The printing quality is moderate to high quality and the design doesn’t wrap around the whole case completely, the print stops short of about a third of an inch from the clear case edge.  The clear case that the design is on is obviously what makes it cheaper.  My ultimate favorite is this one they call “TIGER GEOMETRIC” but what’s strange is the face doesn’t look like a tiger.  I think they’re mistaken, it looks more like a lion or lioness, I can tell from the chin and the eyes and all I could think of when I saw this was “Aslan” not “Shere Khan”.  Generally, tigers have slightly larger, rounder  eyes than lions, slimmer snouts, and their eyes are closer together, not as far apart as lions’ eyes.  So to me, this is a lion.  No one disagreed on Instagram, LOL.  I also love that it blazes with multi-facets of the color of the new year and brings back childhood memories of Lisa Frank stickers and stationery.

I do know I won’t find fantastic graphic designs I can browse through locally as I was able to so easily do on their Ebay store.   What I like is it’s not a printed, peel-off sticker they just slapped on a clear case, they’ve obviously got a special printer that makes veneer designs that adhere and mold to plastic.  On my current case, the “Tiger” Geometric, it even looks like the darker facets in the graphics are beveled or embossed, you can see and feel it, so nice.

These are great but don’t naman expect Casetagram quality (which costs over $33 USD).  When I say print quality is moderate (for $5-$6 I paid each) that’s because I still can see printer striping if you look closely at the medium tones (look at the flamingo case where it’s most obvious, that was the dud of the 5).  I don’t mind too much about this for the price (about under Php200 each), I’m just really happy that my favorite designs, the cat, the lion, and the mermaid were printed well.  HC_03

I skimmed through hundreds of designs within my phone category, nearly a thousand Samsung S3 cases on the “e_cell” Ebay site before picking these 5 (they do same designs for other smartphone models including iphones).  By the way, if you’ve got the same phone as me make sure you’re looking at the Samsung S3 i9300 cases, NOT S3 MINI cases, easy to be mistaken.  Have fun browsing :).… To full post & COMMENTS...

Alice Blue “Palawan Mystique” Candle | If Marc Jacobs’ Daisy had a candle…

I’ve begun to realize I’m a bit of a scent whiz or have developed a nose.  I don’t mean that I’ve memorized the identities of tons of fragrance notes or anything like that but when it comes to matching up fragrances or identifying that something smells a WHOLE LOT like something else, I’m your gal.  Not sure how long this “skill” is going to hang around but I’m positively sure I’ve still got it coz I just discovered something wonderful.  I’ve sniffed and found out that locally crafted Filipino soy candle brand Alice Blue (around since 2005, I was on Venus or perhaps Pluto…) have a candle that smells way too much like the Marc Jacobs’ Daisy fragrance, 2011’s summer sellout version Eau So Fresh to be exact.  I proudly got it, it’s called “Palawan Mystique”.

Palawan Mystique Deluxe Candle| Php529.00 for 5 oz. hand-poured soy candle, candle holder Php199 | Proudly Philippine-Made
Scents of the Underground River and ‘Last Frontier’ island. Fresh marine accord and rainforest with bergamot, orris, musk, boise de rose and amber.

Can I just say this, this is the most quickly fragrant candle I have at the moment, the others I own get fragrant as well (I still love the complexity and build of imported scents) but it takes a good 15-20 minutes before they do fill the room completely with fragrance.  I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a soy candle base but this candle makes the room smell good faster, the catch from what I’ve observed is it burns down slightly faster too, but just slightly. Lenticular Ladies, Double Mirror Compacts | Budget Buys at Metro Gaisano

So I fussed and hissed trying to Google for what to call that old school technology we 80s kids know oh, so very well. You know, plasticized sheets that toggle only 2 images delivering simple animation…enough to lure out a smile.  They happen to be lenticular plastic sheets and they’ve been around for what seems like forever.  I happened to be strolling around Metro Gaisano department store in Market Market yesterday and found these super cool double mirror compacts (1 regular side, 1 magnifying) for Php69 each with anime-ish lenticular veneers on them (I picked several out for friends, too). The compacts have a firm stub of a button to push the compact open, they’re lightly heavy-ish in weight and not loosely constructed…w-i-n.

Of course this one is my favorite one so I show her off first.  I love how she gently pouts a lightly glossed mouth when she closes her eyes.  There were probably about 10 to 15 different girl designs to choose from.  These weren’t love at first sight because honestly some of the dolly-ish faces (the toddler ones especially which I DID NOT get) were kinda scary but I fished through all the racks to find the cool-ish ones which I felt would not freak me out nor send me fleeing in fear if I caught them blinking back at me in the evening LOL.  I just find these actually useful compact mirrors trippy, artsy, and chic.  They remind me of some of the concept artwork found on sites like Ballistic Publishing by digital artists like Melanie Delon.  Read more to see a few more photos and the inside of the compact.… To full post & COMMENTS...

Speechless Sunday…sort of | MUJI Cat Paperclips

You know how cats love to mark…whatever…whoever?  It’s high time they marked something sacred. I got these in January. I love that they’re not as thick as regular paper clips so they won’t damage delicate pages and they’re tightly shaped.

MUJI Cat Paperclips about Php250++?? Sorry, give or take…approximately, could be less. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and the “rest” of your Sunday, hehe.… To full post & COMMENTS...
