HOT VALENTINE Beauty Giveaway 2016 | Nationwide Until FEB.10

We had the Thanksgiving giveaway last year and I had the pleasure of personally delivering the loot to the winner Rafflecopter chose for the first time.  She was really happy and I was pleasantly surprised because she was pregnant!  I know I’ve said this more than once but this Hot Valentine Giveaway is by far one of my most exciting giveaways yet.  A couple of the prizes are items that are so good they’ll make you wonder why I’m giving them away.  Just to be clear, the contents of these pouches are not just Sleek and Happy Skin products.  I always first take my share of the products to review or use to honor the brands.  Both pouches are jam-packed with so many different brands for this giveaway.  I mainly chose these pouches because they’re so well made.  Both these pouches of skincare and makeup will go to one winner.  To join the giveaway you can enlist in the Rafflecopter widget at the end, but first…see an overview of the goodies!

THE PARENTS DO HAKUHODO

So, while lazing about in bed in my apartment this morning and after a couple minutes of chatting, a Viber note dropped in from the land of the rising sun…with this photo of Dad pointing to the Hakuhodo makeup brush boutique sign of either their flagship store in maybe Minami Aoyama, Tokyo or Ginza, still need to confirm which one.  These photos are care of Mom, an excellent editor in her own right.  I asked for one wide shot of the shop, but of course, she took like 7 or 8 photos all around the store, salesladies included.

What I know of the particular branch of Hakuhod0 in Minami Aoyama is that it hosts the widest selection of the highly acclaimed premium artisan brush range.  I’m pretty sure they went to that branch because this photo by Mom looks almost exactly like the Minami Aoyama photo on their webpage. Read on.

GOLDEN GLOBES 2016 Red Carpet | My Best Five in Beauty

I didn’t catch the live telecast of this year’s Golden Globes, but annual A-list award shows always excite me because of the idea of how many production people are involved in serving and grooming the talents from head to toe.  To see the finished product is really exciting.

I caught up with some research and browsing of the event online and thought I’d do a round up of my best 5 in beauty among the ladies, with some behind the scenes beauty scoop thrown in.  For the most part, I found out who did their faces, and for a couple I managed to Sherlock some of the products.  Of course photo sources will be cited at the end and the ladies are not mentioned in order of rank, they’re all beautiful in a different way.  Read on…

My Late 2015 Christmas Beauty Wishlist

Putting up a post like this was obviously somewhat of a holiday afterthought, but I bet Santa has his superpowers charged at this time of year anyway.  Regardless of tardiness I still want to share a couple of these beauty bits with you.   All except one bit, to my knowledge, are not readily available in retail locally.

CLOCKWISE in photo:

TATCHA Dewy Skin Mist

One of those hydrating mists I spotted thanks to Jaclyn Hill, leaves a beautiful sheen on the skin and is a lovely perk for no makeup makeup looks.

“A silky liquid spray-on moisturizer of Squalane, Red Algae and our HADASEI-3 complex can be misted for a boost of soothing hydration, resulting in dewy, luminous skin anytime, anywhere.   This milky emulsion contains moisturizers and humectants leaving skin rehydrated. Does not contain high levels of alcohol and fragrance found in conventional hydrating sprays, which can dry out the skin.”

Diorific 2015 Holiday Collection “Fascinante” lipstick

I own a Diorific lipstick in the shade “Glory” and it is an absolutely fabulous long-wearing formula.  Not a mile away from Estee Lauder’s acclaimed Pure Envy lip range.

“An easy-wearing matte whose secret lies in its unique use of an exceptionally soft and velvety micronized silicon powder. The “powdery” silicon smoothes colour with no streaking while striking a subtle balance between hold and comfort. Unlike traditional matte makeup, this formula continuously moisturizes lips without drying them.”

PIXI by Petra, Contour Powder “Shape & Shadow”

That one local item, which was the Pixi Contour Powder (it’s awesome and available in major SM beauty floors), was one I actually owned for a couple of weeks and strongly appreciated.  Sadly, it smashed to bits after an accident on one job, and is now a haphazard mess to keep in my handbag even after pressing the powder back into the compact.  The contour color was so on point, more on point for shading in my case than NARS Laguna.

PIXI by Petra, Endless Silky Eye Pen Quartette

My favorite shade in their permanent shades is Bronze Beam, I blogged about this eye pencil last year right here.

“A limited edition set of 4 bestselling waterproof, easy-glide eyeliners in a gorgeous, giftable box.  Featured colors: BlackNoir, BlackCocoa, DeepPlum and SlateGrey.”

MAKE UP FOR EVER 12 Flash Color Case “Neutral”:

For a makeup artist like myself an array of shades like this in multi-purpose textures are most likely a dream to work with professionally…it probably also makes a bloody good bruise kit.  The first flash case contains basic primary colors so that one is an essential as well, especially for costume and theater work.

“This 12-Piece Make Up For Ever Flash Color Case is found in the kits of many well-known makeup artists. Create an array of looks for eyes, cheeks, and lips with this luxe palette that’s perfect for on-the-go touch ups. ” 12 x 0.21 oz Flash Color in Grey, Neutral Brown, Purple Grey, Rosewood, Dark Antique Pink, Ivory, Livid, Kaki, Pink Brown, Fresh Pink, Sienna, Rusty Brown

URBAN DECAY x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette

For awhile, a couple of years to be honest, I was somewhat sick of seeing eyeshadow palettes.  I just got so saturated and not interested after a couple of years’ surge of masses of them in the industry.  Gwen, however, piques my ever present nineties nostalgia and seeing a palette like this had me goo-goo eyed all over again.

“In a true creative partnership, Gwen Stefani and Urban Decay created the UD | Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette. Wende Zomnir—co-founder of Urban Decay—and her product development team spent countless hours at Gwen’s house, talking makeup and working closely with her on every detail of this palette—from the case to the amazing shades. This palette features her 15 must-have shades of eye shadow, including 12 never-seen-before colors and three that are from the Urban Decay shadow collection.”

What beautiful stuff!  They’re from all over so I’ve linked to the global sites where most information or pricing is available.  I pray you have a happy Christmas and don’t forget to make an effort to share moments and love in person, not just snaps online!… To full post & COMMENTS...

Laura Mercier Watercolour Mist Palette, Raindrops on Roses and Whispers of Color

It’s time to inject a bit of color into this rainy season.  It’s a rare thing for a palette’s packaging to match this bleak time of year in such a straightforward, sleek, and pretty way.  Laura Mercier have done it with their Watercolour Mist Palette which is quite frankly one of the prettiest palettes to hand I’ve seen in years.  Faux water droplets across the chrome-y case are done so well, anyone could mistake them for the real thing.

SHADES from left: MIST, FOG, STORM, SUNSET (cheek color, like Benefit Dandelion), EARTH (cheek color, like a warmer MAC Harmony), WIND, PURPLE RAIN, and CLOUD (P.S. I do not self-mutilate, I have a cat.)

I would have loved to wear these colors for you and given you a look but I just got well from some sort of glandular fever, explaining my absence, so my eyes are still kind of puffy and haven’t completely contracted back to their normal shape.  The texture of the eyeshadow shades is silky with minimal fallout, they adhere nicely to eyelids with diligent blending, primed or not (but better primed of course).  I like that the shades are soft puffs of color that you can try out if you’re willing to take a step outside of your usual neutral box.  My favorite shades are FOG, a soft khaki, and WIND…a noticeable but still muted lavender.

Sorry I’ll have to have a hunt in my room for the price (will edit it in right here) but this is available at Rustan’s the Beauty Source, this is part of a seasonal collection so I can imagine it won’t be around forever.  In dreary weather like this, we all need a dose of prettiness to cheer us up.… To full post & COMMENTS...
