PRETTY AND PROPER PROM MAKEUP BY ME

This one is a mega post, long but fun!  In a world where everything beautiful is said to be subjective to taste I still have my personal standards, especially when it comes to makeup for little women.  Call me old-fashioned but when it comes to prom makeup I still strongly think that it ought to celebrate youth and not mask it entirely.  I feel like breaking out into a rash whenever I hear about young people pulling all sorts of strings to try to look older at prom.  I spent the other night helping prep my cousin Stella who was invited to an all boys’ school prom.  I did her makeup upon request.

Processed with VSCO with k3 preset

There’s a fine line difference between looking older and looking of age and I always sincerely hope that girls decide on the latter just as Stella did.  Read on for a before and after shot, products used, details on how I did it and a sneak peek at Stella’s personal makeup kit at the end.

BALM BRAND LANOLIPS GETS A NEW LOOK

My first ever post on this blog in 2010 here, which I was reminiscing about, was a thank you post for Lanolips, an award-winning natural Australian balm brand processed from pure medical grade lanolin from sheep’s wool (sheared/skimmed off in a cruelty free manner).  It has always been a great natural alternative to petroleum based ointments and at medical grade is suitable for babies (supplied in hospitals as well).  Lanolips is a multi-purpose and natural salve/balm in the same vein as Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream and Lucas Papaw Ointment…but not petroleum based.  I thought about how the brand was doing (after ending up in so many top editors’ handbags over the years) and it turns out just under a week ago the brand got a spiffy new makeover!  Being the search queen that I am, I found this huge image of their new look on their Facebook page.

LAN_03

I remember how my brain strained for vocabulary on the first post, not having properly written an essay or read a decent book for a couple of years because of work.  In 2010, the thrill of my first post on Lanolips (which I ordered after Charlotte of Lipglossiping had posted about it) didn’t end there, a few weeks after my first post I won an online contest by Lanolips, by writing an imaginary letter to Lady Lamb stating why I wanted to win Lanolips, I even gave her an imaginary address.  Read on to see the prize I won nearly 6 years ago, and how Lanolips used to look versus a couple of photos of the new look.… To full post & COMMENTS...

MY BUDGET SUMMER MAKEUP EDIT 2016

I get the random comment about my makeup recommendations being safe for normal and clear skin types.  A good number of you out there, I’ve observed, prefer more coverage.  So, for today’s budget  summer makeup look I am sporting more coverage and a heavier less dewy finish, more than what I’d personally wear.  For those among you who like things more packed in and shine-free I give you this edit.

In the look I do not use the eyeliner but I’ve still added an eyeliner recommendation.  Read on for more on the look and product details.… To full post & COMMENTS...

HAPPY SKIN x PLAINS & PRINTS | PRINTS MADE PRETTY

Another year with Happy Skin cosmetics can only get better.  They’ve made way into love month with a fun makeup and style collaboration alongside the brand’s clothing retail partner Plains & Prints.  Imagine a clothing line inspired by a makeup collection, different indeed!  The clothes will be exclusively available via Zalora.com.ph from February 10-17.  This post features the cosmetics, mainly the lippies.  Sorry to say you now must know I felt slightly overcome with nausea and palpitations in the fitting room while fitting clothes at the event.  I even had to ask for a glass of water to be brought to me inside the fitting room, something about too much caffeine.  Just know that with me excess caffeine + crowds + decisions are not a good combination, haha.  There vanished any resolve to shoot OOTDs after.

Happy Skin Prints Made Pretty

The makeup collection features our favorite Happy Skin Shut up & Kiss me lippies in two new shades and extremely new glam makeup items never before done by Happy Skin.  I personally took all my photos at the event, flatlay models on the floor included, except for the shot of me above by Ira, a Happy Skin intern who used my camera.    Read on to see me try these out and see the rest of the post.… To full post & COMMENTS...

The MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Sculpt Range

“IMMA FINISH BY MIDNIGHT” says the author of this post on Snapchat.  Great, now I’m stressed, I gave myself 25 minutes left to tell you bits and bobs about MAKE UP FOR EVER’s new Pro Sculpt range.  I certainly won’t make it before midnight (after midnight disclaimer right there).  You’ll also have to pardon my severely chipped nails.

MUFE_prosculpt_01

In a nutshell, the brow item is everything one needs for a precise natural brow and then some (with a waxier texture, a spoolie brush, and a highlight sponge bulb in the middle), the contour and color kit just works, and they were thoughtful to do both brow and face kits in several colorway intensities (4-5 shades for brow and contour items) according to depth of skin hue.  The lipstick item I specifically left out for separate review because the one they gave me was red (items above were at the event).  I also include gossmakeupartist’s video tutorial for the use of the palette at the end of the post.  Read on to see me try on the palette and brow pencil.… To full post & COMMENTS...

HOT VALENTINE Beauty Giveaway 2016 | CLOSED FEB.10

We had the Thanksgiving giveaway last year and I had the pleasure of personally delivering the loot to the winner Rafflecopter chose for the first time.  She was really happy and I was pleasantly surprised because she was pregnant!  I know I’ve said this more than once but this Hot Valentine Giveaway is by far one of my most exciting giveaways yet.  A couple of the prizes are items that are so good they’ll make you wonder why I’m giving them away.  Just to be clear, the contents of these pouches are not just Sleek and Happy Skin products.  I always first take my share of the products to review or use to honor the brands.  Both pouches are jam-packed with so many different brands for this giveaway.  I mainly chose these pouches because they’re so well made.  Both these pouches of skincare and makeup will go to one winner.  To join the giveaway you can enlist in the Rafflecopter widget at the end, but first…see an overview of the goodies!

A TALE OF TWO REDS

I was in Kensington, London and Topshop was my last stop before our airport shuttle arrived.  I picked up Topshop Rio Rio lipstick from their matte range which is a Lady Danger-ish type of shade that isn’t as powdery and more red than orange…but yes, still, a classic coral. I knew Zoella liked it, but was unaware when I bought it that Alexa Chung had recommended it to Liv Tyler as well (as Alexa told ITG), and Liv completely followed suit on that shared tidbit.  There goes the neighborhood.

Excuse the “I’m holding my breath” face.  I should end this post right here, haha.  Of course, it would be not very nice to be raving about a lipstick shade that isn’t locally available.  I try not to do that or like today if I do, I  choose to refer a worthy dupe.  The dupe was so good I got confused while cropping photos after downloading the shots from my camera.  Read on.… To full post & COMMENTS...

GOLDEN GLOBES 2016 Red Carpet | My Best Five in Beauty

I didn’t catch the live telecast of this year’s Golden Globes, but annual A-list award shows always excite me because of the idea of how many production people are involved in serving and grooming the talents from head to toe.  To see the finished product is really exciting.

I caught up with some research and browsing of the event online and thought I’d do a round up of my best 5 in beauty among the ladies, with some behind the scenes beauty scoop thrown in.  For the most part, I found out who did their faces, and for a couple I managed to Sherlock some of the products.  Of course photo sources will be cited at the end and the ladies are not mentioned in order of rank, they’re all beautiful in a different way.  Read on…… To full post & COMMENTS...

My Late 2015 Christmas Beauty Wishlist

Putting up a post like this was obviously somewhat of a holiday afterthought, but I bet Santa has his superpowers charged at this time of year anyway.  Regardless of tardiness I still want to share a couple of these beauty bits with you.   All except one bit, to my knowledge, are not readily available in retail locally.

CLOCKWISE in photo:

TATCHA Dewy Skin Mist

One of those hydrating mists I spotted thanks to Jaclyn Hill, leaves a beautiful sheen on the skin and is a lovely perk for no makeup makeup looks.

“A silky liquid spray-on moisturizer of Squalane, Red Algae and our HADASEI-3 complex can be misted for a boost of soothing hydration, resulting in dewy, luminous skin anytime, anywhere.   This milky emulsion contains moisturizers and humectants leaving skin rehydrated. Does not contain high levels of alcohol and fragrance found in conventional hydrating sprays, which can dry out the skin.”

Diorific 2015 Holiday Collection “Fascinante” lipstick

I own a Diorific lipstick in the shade “Glory” and it is an absolutely fabulous long-wearing formula.  Not a mile away from Estee Lauder’s acclaimed Pure Envy lip range.

“An easy-wearing matte whose secret lies in its unique use of an exceptionally soft and velvety micronized silicon powder. The “powdery” silicon smoothes colour with no streaking while striking a subtle balance between hold and comfort. Unlike traditional matte makeup, this formula continuously moisturizes lips without drying them.”

PIXI by Petra, Contour Powder “Shape & Shadow”

That one local item, which was the Pixi Contour Powder (it’s awesome and available in major SM beauty floors), was one I actually owned for a couple of weeks and strongly appreciated.  Sadly, it smashed to bits after an accident on one job, and is now a haphazard mess to keep in my handbag even after pressing the powder back into the compact.  The contour color was so on point, more on point for shading in my case than NARS Laguna.

PIXI by Petra, Endless Silky Eye Pen Quartette

My favorite shade in their permanent shades is Bronze Beam, I blogged about this eye pencil last year right here.

“A limited edition set of 4 bestselling waterproof, easy-glide eyeliners in a gorgeous, giftable box.  Featured colors: BlackNoir, BlackCocoa, DeepPlum and SlateGrey.”

MAKE UP FOR EVER 12 Flash Color Case “Neutral”:

For a makeup artist like myself an array of shades like this in multi-purpose textures are most likely a dream to work with professionally…it probably also makes a bloody good bruise kit.  The first flash case contains basic primary colors so that one is an essential as well, especially for costume and theater work.

“This 12-Piece Make Up For Ever Flash Color Case is found in the kits of many well-known makeup artists. Create an array of looks for eyes, cheeks, and lips with this luxe palette that’s perfect for on-the-go touch ups. ” 12 x 0.21 oz Flash Color in Grey, Neutral Brown, Purple Grey, Rosewood, Dark Antique Pink, Ivory, Livid, Kaki, Pink Brown, Fresh Pink, Sienna, Rusty Brown

URBAN DECAY x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette

For awhile, a couple of years to be honest, I was somewhat sick of seeing eyeshadow palettes.  I just got so saturated and not interested after a couple of years’ surge of masses of them in the industry.  Gwen, however, piques my ever present nineties nostalgia and seeing a palette like this had me goo-goo eyed all over again.

“In a true creative partnership, Gwen Stefani and Urban Decay created the UD | Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette. Wende Zomnir—co-founder of Urban Decay—and her product development team spent countless hours at Gwen’s house, talking makeup and working closely with her on every detail of this palette—from the case to the amazing shades. This palette features her 15 must-have shades of eye shadow, including 12 never-seen-before colors and three that are from the Urban Decay shadow collection.”

What beautiful stuff!  They’re from all over so I’ve linked to the global sites where most information or pricing is available.  I pray you have a happy Christmas and don’t forget to make an effort to share moments and love in person, not just snaps online!… To full post & COMMENTS...
