Mother’s Day for many countries is about a month away on May 13 with the exception of the U.K. which celebrated Mother’s Day way earlier in March. London happens to be the upcoming site for the 2012 Olympic Games and as of yesterday there were a 100 days left before the commencement of the games on July 27, 2012.
The reason why I’m announcing Mother’s Day this early is because on top of viewing this moving TV Commercial by P&G London which was released the other day, celebrating the Moms behind the Olympics I want everyone to take the time to thank and love our Moms this coming Mother’s Day. I can relate because my brother’s an athlete and he aspires to play football internationally one day, he’s been playing football since he was 4 years old and non-stop since he was 9, he’ll be 16 this year.
He now plays for the Kaya Elite, the youth club of Kaya FC in the UFL League which includes players like Aly Borromeo, Nate Burkey, Anton Del Rosario, Jason Sabio, Lexton Moy and more…
The LiveTattoo.ph 30s TVC is finally on the air, 2.5 days, 6 hours of sleep, around 15-20 support talents. I understand that in the post production process lots of the faces I made up didn’t make it into the frame, except for one stretch in particular Ellore’s clip, but I’m cool with that. That’s all across the board and it’s part of my job. The set was AWESOME! What a feat and of course dense little me tried to warn Syke, visual FX shoot supervisor “You guys are going to be cleaning up a lot of cables…” when it happened to deliberately be a SteamPunky theme with golden wiring to embellish the set”DUH”, knock-knock Julia lol. In digital post production, which was what I used to do, you learn to accept the final outcome of the work as approved by the brand and in the end it is being part of an excellent whole that matters to me. The Live Tattoo 30s TVC is embedded at the bottom. The lead talents for the TVC made up by Jigs Mayuga are Saab Magalona, Coach Rio, and Danica Magpantay.
This is Ellore, am glad they got her for a close-up even just for a moment. I’m sure she didn’t expect it. We became good friends on set as we talked into the wee hours of the morning with Syke.I did blur her eyebags a bit in this shot for this still…it wasn’t as bad because it was already edited but to do the photo justice I’m just disclosing that I did. All these support talents had barely a few hours worth of sleep for 2 days, but sometimes that’s just how we roll, folks.
I’m just extremely proud to say I worked on this fabulous commercial with the team that did it. A big shout out of thanks to the Harrison Communications team: Pau Pamatmat, Grace Consolacion, Paolo Fabregas, and Mark Pahati, Provill Productions, Eddie Mar Cabiltes my hairstylist, Mara Reyes our wardrobe stylist, AssistDirek ManMan, Direk Adrian Calumpang, the Tattoo clients, Underground Logic digital post production for the edit and effects, and in particular Syke Dolero, my former officemate from UGL who kept me in high spirits at the crack of dawn.
OMIGAWRSH…I spotted their video announcement on YouTube and got super excited. I only ever got to buy 1 pair of Renegade Folk shoes and they happen to be my most favorite heels. Back then they were available at bazaars and they had a Multiply Store online which is no longer active but they’ve got a brand spanking NEW RenegadeFolk.com Website here! I’ve used my own pair so often ever since I got them. These are photos from my Samsung Galaxy S Android phone, I use the FREE app Camera 360 when taking mobile photos.
They’re not cheap but they’re not insanely expensive either considering how great their styles and shapes are. I think I scored this pair at a bazaar for about Php1800 or Php2000 2.5 years ago but they’ve lasted me so well and still look really great considering I’ve worn them to so many places. I discovered the brand at their Rockwell bazaar kiosk, bought those shoes and loved them then Renegade Folk disappeared for what looked like was forever, but now they’re back!!! Like them on Facebook, check their website, and watch their YouTube announcement in this video.
I’ve never talked about jewelry that isn’t costume jewelry, we’re talking bout real bedazzlers this time. RUBEDO is a lovely new metal created in time for Tiffany & Co.’s 175th Anniversary celebration. Its pure, pinkish hue mimicks that of the currently trendy rose gold. As of late you’ll find rose gold accents popping up almost everywhere (though I personally think it doesn’t suit EVERY skintone like they say), from the oversized ladies watches to the Elizabeth Arden Aurora collection, but there’s something inherently cleaner about RUBEDO, something more attractive than the idea of rose gold.
If you’re on the market for something new RUBEDO is very feminine and has just stepped into the limelight. I noticed there are 2 rings I believe in the collection (before the earrings above) and to me one wide one is pretty but horribly huge and looks like a corset or girdle for my finger and the other collection ring is far too branded right the way along the band for me to be fond of. I’m intent on rectifying that at the very least in theory. From the internet I took a photo of 1 engagement ring and digitally made it over visually changing the band to RUBEDO, one Tiffany Style 6-claw ring.
Some of you who are more comfortable with whatever is traditional would probably prefer the usual, safe platinum or silver bands, but to me after doing this photo makeover makes me feel like I’d just brought a ring from Pleasantville back into my world of color, and I like it very much. The idea of a rosy, blushing engagement ring would suit the mood upon “receiving” it I think *blush. I’ve not got MARRIAGE constantly on my mind 24/7, please don’t be mistaken in thinking that, I just couldn’t shake the thought of a lovely, simple Rubedo ring with a name inside and nothing is quite as sophisticated as an engagement ring. It’s a pretty thought that I just wanted to see manifested in an image at least (I’m so glad I’m digitally keen). For sure my husband-to-be wouldn’t want Rubedo wedding rings (neither would I) butI thought it would be so nice to have “my” rosy Rubedo engagement ring sitting atop a platinum/silver wedding ring, the contrast in color would remind me of the heat of the moment “when I was asked”.
From the start, when these first Body Jewelry Tattoos by Urban Decay came out in the beauty news I thought they were ridiculously priced, pegged at an absolutely ridiculous amount for whatever feeble amount of tattoos you got. They came out shortly after the Chanel ones did. At the time if I’m not mistaken they were about $29.00. It’s nice to finally see the price of these drop to something more sensible (for temp tattoos) even just for a short while.
I’d certainly get these for $4.00 after it dropping from the $25 mark. If you’re interested I suggest now is the time to contact houseofflair.multiply.com and ask for some Pre-ordering help. Hehehe. The XL sized Eden Primer potion (a matte skin shade) is also marked down at 50% off from $24, so it’s now $12, and that XL size contains 60% more product than the original size. Oh, and of course it’s impossible that you haven’t heard about Urban Decay’s latest foolproof bait for all us beauty fish in the sea, the reformulated, relaunched Urban Decay single eyeshadows hand-in-hand with the Build Your Own custom palette. I personally like Jen’s simple little video demonstration and swatching of her own Build Your Own palette which was given to her since she was one of the bloggers at the launch. The smoother now longer-lasting single eyeshadows come in cases with a little skylight window so you can see the shades instantly, BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE. They pop out of their little houses like so…
This tiny tin I think will far outdo the NAKED craze in different ways, especially for makeup professionals like myself, and what if, just what if, they come out with an 8 or 12-pan size palette…omg. I personally thing an 8 or 9-pan one would have been more tempting, but still this has me all over it already. The custom palette comes with a brush and a default eyeshadow “Walk of Shame” which is conveniently a flesh toned matte if I’m not mistaken, just to get you started on the popping out and in, quite clever. Practice makes perfect, practice makes you want to buy more eyeshadows to pop in…hehehe. For a limited time only the Urban Decay Build Your Own starter palette is priced at $18, the price of each newly reformulated single eyeshadow which are also 18 bucks a pop.
I included a video of the featured Build Your Own Launch below, and while you’re at it join me in wondering why they didn’t call it something like the Urban Decay DIY palette instead, I love the idea but Build Your Own gets lazy. At the TOP SECRET launch, the Urban Decay team invited 4 YouTube Bloggers, whose names I’ve linked to their individual Urban Decay video features, Leesha (xsparkage), Kandee (kandeejohnson), Jen (frmheadtotoe), Christine (temptalia), and 1 online Beauty Editor, Megan McIntyre of Refinery29.comto test, feel, and think about the newly reformulated eyeshadows and create their own individual custom palettes. I personally thought that was quite brilliant, except for one thing, they didn’t invite me, tsk, LOL!

I love how Adele has positioned herself as someone beautiful without having to be stereotypically slim. Her makeup is always spot on and she’s an absolute beauty to behold and listen to each time I see her, which is only a few times but they’ve made a hasty impression on me. I’ll admit I wasn’t one of her earlier followers, but when I started to notice how utterly original she was, she made a fan out of me.
On March 11, 2012 it will have been one year since Japan wept as one because of the destructive tsunami that followed the 9.0 Tohoko Earthquake. It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded to hit Japan. Miyagi, Sendai was the only place in Japan I went to as a student ambassador, I lived with them, I had a Miyagi shirt with me and we caught fish in nets along the same coast if I’m not mistaken that nearly swallowed the entire city. It gripped my heart to see these people suffer while knowing also that I am part of them since I have a Japanese great grandmother.
“Even when a flower falls, we love it. That is the heart of a Japanese person.”
UK Film Director, Lucy Walker put out a tender short film in the few months that followed the disaster, she instead chose to craft a film that focused on highlighting Japan’s resilient beauty amidst tragedy. Mom was trying to share this with me via email and I kept receiving it while on the go in my phone inbox but overlooking it. I know now why she kept urging me to watch it. Pull your tissue box near you and watch this short but relevant and hopeful film which I embedded below, The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossoms. The film is now a 2012 Academy Award nominee for Documentary (short subject).
Hands down, nobody beats these two as best dressed KIDS on the red carpet of the 54th annual Grammy Awards night!

In case you have no idea who Sophia Grace and Rosie are, they’re pretty popular now worldwide thanks to Ellen, it began with a phonecam video taken by their mother of this same performance on Ellen that catapulted these two into YouTube stardom and into the arms of Nicki Minaj.
Stay tuned as I glean for more red carpet Grammy photos online. Sources will always be credited and linked to.
This is very sad news. I was blessed by this beautiful woman’s music. Whitney’s songs had soul and power from within. She will be missed, in fact I miss her already. The Associated Press has confirmed her death.
It seemed only fitting that the first photos I post of her are those from her glory days and where her makeup is also done by someone gone too soon, her good friend, the late and great makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin.
I took these photos from my own book, Kevyn’s concise biography full of photographs, A Beautiful Life where they show photos of him doing makeup for some of the greatest women from the last century. These two people have inspired me greatly. Just needed to share the sad news with you guys. What song sung by Whitney did you love growing up? I liked a version of her singing Yes, Jesus Loves Me which she sang to the people of Brazil in the mid-90s, she wasn’t her most glamorous there, she was very sweaty from performing, perhaps the humidity was too much for her in that video, but I love how she shows how dear the song is to her. BUT THE SONG THAT TRULY IMPACTED ME was her song sung with Mariah Carey for the movie Prince of Egypt, the song When You Believe.
It was a song that always gave me hope in my darkest moments and still gives me hope today. I miss you, Whitney, a lot of us grew up with your beautiful voice singing some of the most unforgettable songs in our lives.
