My Good Night Thanksgiving Giveaway 2015, Open ‘Til Dec.5 Nationwide

Aha!  Isn’t it obvious I’m making up for my absence with a giveaway?  Here I am again, typing straight to you from Mom’s laptop.  My own laptop canvassing is underway and I’ve finally narrowed my search down to two units and it all hangs on whether I’m going the Apple or PC route plus getting the funds together to make it happen.  The risk with taking the Apple route you see is that my life in files almost entirely originates from PC units only…so there’s that compatibility factor and more money to consider.  Anyway, to cut to the chase, here is my LATE but finally here Good Night Thanksgiving Giveaway.

This year has not been my most productive blogging year to boot with moving from Laguna to Quezon City and setting up a halfway base, my Lolo getting critically confined in hospice for over a month now, and my having to do more work to make personal ends meet…I am, however, still thankful that I still have a number of you who wait for my posts regardless of my traffic stats and lack of beauty buzz in general.  I honestly don’t think I will ever leave the blogosphere, even when I have babies :).  Here’s my special way of saying thank you, it’s sort of themed around what we love about getting ready for really good girly nights out inclusive of taking our faces off and tucking into bed when the night is over.

To join the giveaway follow the instructions via the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom, but first have a wookie-lookie at the loot!  Click on repeat the right arrow on the Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post to read the listed prizes one by one, or read them here.  You must join the giveaway using my Rafflecopter widget at the end of this post and follow the mandatory steps listed plus there are a couple of bonus steps if you want to increase your chances of winning.  This nationwide giveaway ends on December 5, you must currently reside in the Philippines to be able to join, God bless :)

Belo Essentials Whitening Deodorant, Anti-Perspirant & Cream | Loving the Scents of The “ANNEderArms” Arsenal

For the first time in local history, I actually like, no…love the scent of a local deodorant collection and the Belo x Anne Curtis ANNEderArms arsenal also comes with a sound skincare bonus, an underarm cream with better ingredients.    The Belo Essentials deodorants are so great they’ve got me sneaking a sniff every now and then.  Now, they’ve also got their own alcohol-free 48-hr protection, anti-stain aerosol spray version in their new scent, Shower Fresh which FYI has more aquatic notes and smells delicately yet freshly unisex.  Just so you know I am super, as in super liking both the Original and Shower Fresh scents (my fave is original though), it’s like the whole Belo team really internalized the details regarding what you’d like to smell like super up close all year round.

Belo Beauty Whitening Deo 40ml Roll-On Php92.75, Belo Beauty Deo Mini 25ml Roll-on Php54.75, Belo Beauty Deo Aerosol Spray (available in Original & Shower Fresh) 140ml Php184.75

These are available at all leading supermarkets, department stores, and drugstores, nationwide.

My personal favorite is the Original Scent, I like that scent so much I’d probably convert my underarm religion temporarily and go for their roll-ons just to smell like that (they also have an aerosol in the Original Scent, too, my fave), but it’s also nice that they released the Shower Fresh scent which is aquatic enough for guys to use, too.

It smells so nice and I’ve been using the spray deodorant in the new scent for over a week now and when I’m by myself sometimes especially a few minutes after application I do tend to do this because it smells super fresh and I really like it.

In addition to the nice collection of deodorants Belo Essentials have not left out a lovely skincare bonus for your pits and it’s much more than a novelty cream they threw in to expand the collection, so much more than that.  I think the best regimen for getting the most effective results out of this range is using the deo in the daytime and applying this cream over the underarm area at night.

If there is any part of me I wouldn’t mind a little whitening assistance with it would be my pits.  Their underarm whitening cream is certainly not gimmicky, it’s got a sound formula containing Niacinamide (recently Ruth Crilly’s favorite skincare ingredient, A Model Recommends) which enhances the skin barrier, deals with discoloration and improves elasticity while it also hydrates with glycerin.  I think this gentle underarm skincare range retails for a very reasonable price and at least you get alcohol-free great smelling protection.  Keep fresh this summer with Belo Essentials! Bomb Cosmetics’ Little Hotties Scented Melters | On Vday Melt Hearts At Home

This is probably the last month that it is still cool enough to melt a scented candle in the evening.  While I highly encourage getting out and doing any of the activities I mentioned in my previous post I know that a small bunch of you will be choosing to stay in on Hearts’ Day to save and be with each other or yourself lol in the place that matters most.  Whether it’s ME time or WE time there’s no reason staying home should be bereft of a little love in the air especially if “some people are worth melting for”.  Twisting a cap off essential oils and tediously dripping them from a small bottle into your burner can get fiddly or messy.  Toss any of these solid melts in or get guests to pick or make their scent from a bowl of variety (F-U-N) and you’re beyond good.  Kids will also probably love to watch these melt.

Example of what it looks like after it’s cooled off over a scent burner, just like melted candle wax. Php445 for minimum of 100g of your chosen melters (mixed scents allowed).

LH_01Bomb Cosmetics in the UK seems to be like a cheaper brand spinoff of Britain’s world-famous highstreet LUSH Cosmetics, they have bath bombs, bath melts and other bath stuff just like LUSH.  These fragrance-filled pieces are like candle biscuits, sort of.  These fragrant Little Hotties by Bomb Cosmetics UK (via Beauty Bar) are a big twist on the warmth that a standard scented candle provides and the fun in choosing and combining scents is what brings these little buggers home.  Click to read the full post and see which scents I chose from Bomb Cosmetics’ vast and their super fun fragrance combo menu.

My Bath, Body, & Skincare Picks 2014

For a whole chunk of last year after Dad recovered from his stroke and when I got sick for a bit I sort of went on a beauty hiatus.  Then of course the holidays came and for most of the first 2 weeks of January I’ve been sick again with the flu that half the Philippines has right now  (tell me ’bout it, I called a friend and her officemate in the background was coughing).  It wasn’t a flat out choice that I made, beauty just wasn’t a main priority for a long while ’till just before Thanksgiving.  But we’re back and these were my bathroom and bedroom best from last year.

So because I wasn’t so hyped up by beauty buzz for quite awhile I was reaching for things for my personal upkeep with less self-consciousness so to speak, but of course I still had my preferences and was happy to find my current signature fragrance in 2014.  The list is pretty pared down compared to like a year ago.  However I think you’ll like that most of them are readily available here in department stores or local groceries.  Click on to get the details.

Jonathan Adler Scented Candles | Flame Fancy

My Top 10 Makeup bits for 2014 was supposed to go up today.  I shot it already but the flu that I’ve had incubating just got me really down now and so I’m not in the best condition for writing a long detailed post at the moment with many photos.  My head hurts and my throat is itchy so I’ve postponed that to tomorrow night hopefully and have decided to go with a simpler post for now with stuff that I didn’t buy or receive but discovered earlier at Dimensione.  If you’ve never had a whiff of these luxe candles by Jonathan Adler you certainly need to experience their scents even if just in store.  The scents are not executed super literally according to title (e.g. their “sea salt” candle brings to mind a delightfully clean, brute dude) but are thoughtfully put in fragrant context.  They are a whole ‘nother level of awesome.  If money were no object I would have taken the Earl Grey one home with me in a heartbeat but I’m using up other candles at the moment.  The good people of Dimensione Alabang gave me permission to take photos since I couldn’t afford one for now.  Even unlit these send pleasure up your nose as soon as you open the box.

They are pricey, but for obvious reasons.  The line certainly makes it to the candle league of Diptyque and Malin + Goetz, but I think you get substantially a bit more candle for the price.  The 8 oz. J. Adler Earl Grey one (hear me swoon) is in the Php2500 range, while Diptyque’s standard 6 oz. one is close to Php3000 locally from Rustan’s.  These are great (the Fig one is also wonderfully forest-y) but the piece de resistance is this huge one also by Jonathan Adler, Muse Blanc, a very pretty feminine scent which reminds me of Acca Kappa Muschio Bianco but in a slightly more floral way.  Some might get creeped out by the faces, but I don’t…I think it’s pretty and it reminds me of some of the characters in The Neverending Story film.  The candle pot is a grainy matte ceramic finish.  This one is huge compared to the first ones above and is in the Php4k range.

LUSH Laid Back Holidays | Smell And Tell

After all the Christmas commotion has passed I like to duly dub myself a LUSHie.  Lush handmade cosmetics are a must when the cooler breezes begin to blow.  They might inadvertently repel some of you with the blast of aroma by their boutique entrances but I myself am completely drawn in when their Christmas bath collections begin rolling in.  Who can resist the aromatic and animated visual display of a bath bomb in your tub or the bubbly delight of their bath bars through running water in a sink or tub?  If certain adults can’t appreciate the bath bliss that LUSH provides I know kids and teens certainly can.  Pardon the crushed/beheaded Dashing Santa bath bomb, that was an accident.  It does however make for a pretty cut-away display, click here for a video of the Dashing Santa Bath Bomb.  I am a bit sad I didn’t get to grab a Golden Wonder or Northern Lights bath bomb, but I’m glad the LUSH ph team gave me these (with the exception of the Holly Golightly Bubble Bar which I bought).  Now let me go into the smell descriptions.

LUSHie_03LUSHie_02The LUSH “Shoot for the Stars” bath bomb is one from last year, a lovely blue display in the tub with the same enchanting honey-toffee scent as their “Honey I Washed the Kids” soap…someone did a Shoot for the Stars video demo here at this link.  The “Cinders” bath bomb nourishes with hydrating almond oil and delights with a spicy snap-crackle-pop effect plus a cinnamon aroma, no fireplace?  Just drop one in.  Holly Golightly was a sold-out new holiday favorite these past few weeks (I got the last one at LUSH BGC) obviously because of the name which is Audrey Hepburn’s lead character from Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  It’s dressed in silver vegan sparkle and gives off a spicy cinnamon and patchouli scent as you crumble it through running water.  Dashing Santa is satsuma scented, laced with mandarin and bergamot.  Sorry no prices yet, I will extract them if I can find them, Holly Golightly was about Php395 if I recall right.  If my undying appreciation for LUSH has not convinced you with words watch their 2015 holiday video feature below.  I just love ’em.

DKNY MYNY, The Scent About a City | My New York Eau de Parfum

Spiked by a slightly icy spring breeze when I walked those perfectly imperfect streets with cop car sirens blaring in the distance there was a sense of the Big Apple being mine for the moment for some reason (duh, Julia it was your birthday week lol) and I can’t quite put my finger on why but it’s an amazing gutsy feeling…it’s like something about New York hits you without warning just as soon as you get there.  So does this sweet, musky, and spicy scent inspired by the city that never sleeps. DKNY have since my return released a fragrance entitled My New York or MYNY.  I think any person who enjoys NY in general will agree that to name a perfume this way fits the experience for one in the city.  New York in itself is without a doubt tailor-fit and not to mention zoned for the inspired  individual, and it isn’t a city for the faint of heart.  The bottle is heart-shaped glass topped by a lid meant to resemble a cityscape.  By the way, shooting the perfume in the daytime didn’t seem to fit my memory of New York because truth be told I really hardly slept, haha.  MYNY by DKNY is a warm, sweet, faintly fruity and musky scent that isn’t subtle but I can already tell it’s the sort of intense scent that can certainly grow on you as it lingers softly towards the end of the day.  Expect to glow with a sensual sort of sweetness as time passes.

“The new fragrance DKNY MY NY was developed by Trudi Loren in collaboration with IFF. Top notes of the composition provide a blend of raspberry, pink pepper and galbanum, followed by Egyptian jasmine, freesia and orris in the heart. The base encompasses patchouli Heart LMR, vanilla absolute, musk and ambergris.”

MAIN ACCORDS: sweet, patchouli, musky, fruity, soft spicy

  • DKNY MYNY 50ml (P3,650)
  • DKNY MYNY 100ml (P4,650)

Available at Rustans Makati and Rustans Shangrila.

It feels like I blinked and just like that half a year has passed since I landed in New York City for the first time last spring in April.  Eleven days there slipped like sand through a sieve  and then suddenly the credits rolled like the back end of an indie film.  That’s as close as I can get to describing my stay in NYC it was just too brief for words but every moment remains joyfully vivid.  My wonderful trip to NYC wasn’t without its share of unplanned stuff at the front when I arrived and a bit of misadventure (I didn’t get to mark off half of my sights-to-see checklist, boo) but God was faithful to round off the whole rollercoaster-ish trip with cherry blossoms and special bonding moments with my cousin and friends that I never would have had otherwise.  Suffice it to say He’s like totally mysterious like that in the way He allows things to come together.

Every moment high or low colored the trip as a memorable adventure for me and I still want to go back primarily for work in the future.  I wouldn’t be completely honest if I didn’t say that I now understand why people go on and on about New York even if they haven’t returned in years.  Just 3 days in when I arrived and though jet-lagged I was already smitten by my surroundings, Duane Reade (duh lol), and the thrill of possibility that hung at every street corner regardless of my sleeplessness.  After returning home I totally understood why seasoned British thespians like Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart keep on spouting about how they  “Simply love the place…”.  The city is unforgettable and makes you almost feel like you’ll never take in enough unless you stay for a couple of months…but then again after that you may want to stay for awhile longer.  That’s the truth about NYC, something about it gets to you.

By the way DKNY have a special promo on so you can get a chance to win your very own MYNY scent, create your own holographic MYNY heart here at this link and get a chance to win a DKNY MYNY Fragrance Gift Bag.  Go to MYNY’s website at this link to create and generate your holographic MYNY heart image using your photos, save that image and post it to Instagram and tag @SampleroomPH with the hashtags #sampleroomph #DKNY #MYNY.  To qualify for the prize, you must also be a fan of the DKNY Facebook page:

The Demure Allure of Elie Saab Le Parfum | A Gift From Beauty Scents PH

I finished my Miss Dior Eau de Toilette a couple of weeks before I left for the US last April.  It hadn’t occurred to me while I was there to shop for a new signature fragrance that wasn’t too far off from the properly done floral elegance of Miss Dior.  I like floral fragrances but only if they are formulated in an especially unique way that doesn’t smell annoying and invites people to hang around you :).  Up ’til the launch of Beauty Scents PH outlet store in Paseo Center, Laguna I had not smelt the simple joy that is Elie Saab’s Le Parfum scent.  As proven to me while at a private bloggers’ dinner last night there is something warmly well-received about this fragrance.  A handful of them who weren’t aware asked me what I was wearing and so did the event guest of honor, was flattered.  The brand owner even mentioned she’s not a perfume person but she wanted to know what I was wearing.  It’s one of those woodsy florals that’s done right, and the subtle inclusion of honey in the fragrance I think helps round off the scent tagging it as Mediterranean inspired.  To me, mentally it smells like the memory of a beautifully calm person with infectious joy.  I owe my prized scent selection to a tip-off.

A harmony of white flowers, cedar woods and a drop of honey creates an encounter as feminine as the trail of an evening gown. An addictive, refined fragrance with a Mediterranean spirit. The exceptional in the everyday.

Notes: orange blossom, jasmine, patchouli, rose, cedarwood.

THE PURSE SPRAY 60ml (+ 2x 20 ml refills eau de parfum, comes also in eau de toilette), REG. PRICE Php 3600+, BEAUTY SCENTS PRICE Php 3100+

Before I spied Elie Saab at the Beauty Scents PH (Paseo Center, Sta. Rosa, Laguna) launch last week after a tip-off.  At Beauty Scents they sell select fragrance brands individually and by gift sets at nearly half-price, they also sell some cosmetics.  I was admiring another beautiful scent across the room (Dior’s J’ adore) but the bottle’s appearance wasn’t my type.  Then a kind person pointed me in the direction of Elie Saab which according to her was sort of in the same fragrance vein as J’adore, but younger smelling and packaged better.  She claimed that she smelt it already and while nice it wasn’t quite for her.  When she saw me on the hunt her memory of the fragrance matched my appearance she said.  One spritz from the test atomizer and I was convinced.

This is the original Elie Saab Eau de Parfum debut release which launched in 2011.  As bloggers we were allowed to choose a full-size fragrance to review, this is what I chose.  When I wore this last night at that blogger event I mentioned it was the first time more than 3 or 4 people asked what fragrance I had on in one night, which was a good sign. They all affirmed it hung around nicely and wasn’t the nauseating sort of perfume.  I managed to get the travel spray version of the same fragrance as well for easy application from my handbag while on the go.  If you’re one of those girls who leans towards the woodsy, warm, floral category of scents and at your age (late 20s-mid 30s I’d say) now sort of have the feeling you’re past “eau de toilette” mildness this beautiful, appealing fragrance by Elie Saab in Eau de Parfum form is an excellent one to try.  Kind of midway in similarity between Miss Dior and J’adore.  It’s a keeper.… To full post & COMMENTS...
