Starbucks Ltd. Edition Holiday 2013 | Stainless Steel Cold Cup (Rose Gold)

I’ve never found a Starbucks drinkware piece that I wanted to purchase for myself ’til I saw their Stainless Steel Rose Gold “Cold Cup”(Php1195) for cold drinks the other day from Starbucks Promenade, Greenhills (comes with a gold glittered plastic straw). I’m a cold drink girl. What a beauty, I love how computer design today makes faceted shapes like this using stainless steel possible. It’s just really one of a kind, the rose gold finish isn’t too pink or too warm so most guys can get away with owning one, too. The shade is almost like a cool copper and the texture is a mildly matte brushed metal. Really, really nice for when I want a large-ish drink with me in my room.

A stainless steel faceted cold cup with double wall, reusable straw & rose-gold finish (not 100% leakproof, protects from most sudden spills). Php1195.00, Photo Credit: Starbucks

The iconic Starbucks Cold Cup in a beautiful stainless steel version that looks like it’s been carved from ice. Very cool indeed. The 16 fl.oz double wall construction helps keep your iced tea & coffee beverages cold while helping eliminate condensation. Starbucks name (small) on the side in white. Dishwasher safe. Do not microwave.

Yup you guessed it, I got it the hot minute I saw it and the reality being that I’m away from home right now with no time to properly shoot mine, the official Starbucks’ photo of it for you guys should do for now.  If you fancy this you’d better get it soon, it’s not coming back next year, so say the Starbucks elves!… To full post & COMMENTS...

The Personal Care Prepper | A Tale About Backups

I don’t have a shelved and inventoried stockpile of products sitting in a titanium lined bomb shelter, but I do have a number of specific items I can count on one hand (minus the foundation because that makes 6 lol) that I do not like running out of.  They’re not at all last season’s embossed makeup palettes but they do belong in a beauty blog and have more meaningful functions in my life.  Prepping is on everyone’s mind now and relevantly speaking I do go through these like the Shinkansen and nobody’s business.  I’ve placed the nearly empty ones in front in case you can notice the difference at all.  The only thing I wouldn’t say is not nearly empty is my Earl Grey Hurraw vegan lip balm which is approaching halfway and my Shiseido foundation.

backupstockup_01

Delon Argan Oil Conditioner (S&R Membership Shopping grocery), Le Couvent Des Minime Gentle Cleansing Milk (currently 30% off at SM Watsons beauty floors…), J&C Super Clean Solutions Makeup Brush spray (contains alcohol), Dr. Woods Liquid Castile Soap w/ Shea Butter (for deep shampooing makeup brushes), Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation, Hurraw Earl Grey Lip Balm

Stories about acquiring the backups and the reasons behind them are more interesting I think than the backups themselves, they prove their worth (for individual reviews I’ve done click on the product names).  These were “stockpiled” randomly over the last 4 months.

The Delon Argan Oil Conditioner I actually did not stock up on at S&R the first time when I believed stocking up was sort of pretentious and when I ran out it was temporarily GONE from S&R for months and I blamed myself daily, it’s the only conditioner that actually makes me feel that it really contains Argan Oil plus it emulsifies a little bit and rinses leaving that healthy glow or sheen my dull hair craves for.  Then mom spotted the conditioner again at S&R a few grocery stops ago and she got me four bottles plus one for herself.

The Le Couvent Des Minime Gentle Cleansing Milk I’ve just really run out of words for, it’s such a comforting soothing cleanser with rose botanicals that doesn’t foam, doesn’t have mineral oil, but still removes makeup while it cleanses (except waterproof mascara).  I have this bad feeling that people aren’t noticing this L’Occitane sister brand as much as they should in the SM watsons beauty halls, please help them do well so that this brand stays here LOL!!  I don’t want them pulling out any time soon, don’t give me more reasons to stock up, lol.

As I mentioned in my last post for the J&C Super Clean Solutions Makeup Brush Spray I found the perfect opportunity to stock up when I ran out.  I checked with the team that works it out last July 28, apparently they were going to have a price increase come August so I decided to get two bottles while it was still Php395, it now retails for Php595.  It takes about 4-5months for me to get through one.  If you’re looking for an alcohol-free brush cleansing spray a reader of mine named Soleil just mentioned the Ellana Brush Cleanser…which I’m also keen to try.

The Dr. Woods liquid Castile soap  from HEALTHY OPTIONS is pretty much an all-around sort of product safe to use for people and general cleaning but I buy it primarily to shampoo my makeup brushes.  Two overflowing caps to a cup of water is the ratio that works for me then just repeat the amount if you need more of the solution.  Dip, swirl, and lather up your brushes with it on your hand, repeating till the lather is white then rinse thoroughly. It’s a good and sufficient Dr. Bronner’s dupe and is safe to use on yourself as well as your brushes.  My favorite variant for brushes is the peppermint one but I love that they have an unscented BABY version for people with sensitive skin who need their brushes to be completely free of any possible irritants.  The tea tree variant I’ve not opened yet but have on hand should be good for keeping germs and bacteria at a minimum.  I do recommend you use this and NOT Joy Antibac detergent as I previously recommended (Joy didn’t break me out but broke someone else out) to ensure skin safety.

On the Shiseido Perfect Refining Foundation there is no need to say much because I’ve already reviewed it.  It’s a favorite and the one I reach for the most currently.  The backup story of this has sort of a twist because I really got one more in a shade darker because I accidentally tanned (waking up late by a bedroom window where the sun rises).  I then realized I was slowly running out of the first lighter shade I had, right now I’ve been mixing the two as I slowly lose my tan.

And last but not the least, my soooo affordably luxurious Hurraw Earl Grey Lip Balm  available from Cutieverse.com or email rebecca@cutieverse.com for more information (if I’m not mistaken these are already retailing at Beyond Yoga BGC fort).  Since I was contacted to review the products originally I shamelessly asked if I could have a backup of Earl Grey and Cutieverse were glad to supply my Earl Grey fix.  I keep reaching for it and when I can’t find it in my bag I feel a little incomplete without it.  The Hurraw Earl Grey scent and flavor is just so comforting and there are not enough words to describe how perfect the texture is for a cold-pressed vegan lip balm.  It tops any other pocketable balms I’ve tried so far.

That pretty much sums up the stuff I have backups for.  One thing you can never have a backup for though is the people you love, you need to be with them while they exist and spread the truth about love with others.  More than anything I think that’s what really matters should we begin talking about expiration dates and human existence, because time running out is real.… To full post & COMMENTS...

My ZARA Red Lip Shirt | My “Dupe” for that PRADA Dress!

Happy Indie Day, FilipiNas and No-s!  Most of my long time readers know I’m all over renowned MUA Lisa Eldridge’s channel like a rash and I know she inspires a lot of other women as well.  She is my ultimate inspiration in an earthly person when it comes to my makeup career.  There is also something I really like that she uses often… it isn’t a tube of lipstick but it’s still got “makeup” written all over it.

lipslisa

It’s Lisa’s  red lipped PRADA dress which she first saw whenworn by Michelle Williams on British Elle in 2010 (this was also worn by French actress Lea Seydoux) and then she went out and bought the same one.   I happened to be in ZARA last month, a place that I mentally mark with a DO NOT ENTER on most days of the month.  This day however I was really badly on the hunt for some clothes, comfortable clothes, and lo and behold…among the cheaper racks I spotted this cotton top.  I’m pretty chuffed to have it, it fits me like a glove :).

ZARA_liptee_03

ZARA_liptee_04

The lips aren’t printed exactly the same but the pattern flatters me and I like that it’s sort of a younger version of what she’s wearing. I also like that some of the lips are bleeding lipcolor…ooh!

ZARA_liptee_02

Ugh, I’m currently trying to remember the price, all I remember is I smiled because it was about Php599 or was it Php799?  I’m 100% sure it was way under Php1000 because I took it immediately and went to pay for it.  Walking out of ZARA with this one not too expensive item made me feel like I was walking out with ten!… To full post & COMMENTS...

My StrawberryNET Buys | 5% + 8% OFF + FREE Shipping + Gift = Happy Camper

Like a cool cobra in the shadows I was waiting for just the right moment to strike and restock on my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer.  That moment came around when a StrawberryNET  “We Miss You” Discount email alert came in (it comes when you’ve taken awhile to purchase again with them), promising an additional 8% on top of an exising 5% loyalty discount I already have plus a 1% discount if I chose 2 products.  So given that 14% discount plus the lowered Php value of the US$ in the past weeks (41 to 1) I knew today was the day!  I also remembered that this is the last day (you’ve got time) to avail of a special Korres gift with purchase.  In my life I’ve consumed 2 full tubes of LM Tinted Moisturizer, it’s been the go-to item I throw in my bag for outings where I don’t want people visually nitpicking at what I have on.  It evens out my complexion, knocks out the need to “prep”, I can put it on with hands, and it makes me look fresh without shouting “makeup”.  I ran out of it at the beginning of this year and this time I chose the oil-free formula because reportedly, Kate, aka the Duchess of Cambridge, was spotted buying a tube of it shortly before the Royal Wedding Day (in which she did her own makeup).

I also had been planning to put money down for a very long time on my first ever NARS blush via StrawberryNET HK.  I actually wanted NARS Madly, but it was gone when I checked this time and I thought MAC’s Trace Gold which I own is already quite like that so it was fine that I couldn’t have that.   So I decided on NARS Zen which is the MAC Harmony of the NARS world or quite like NARS Laguna without the golden shimmer.  Don’t get me wrong I don’t have anything against pink or peach I’m just on a neutral kick right now.  So all in all this was a strategic maneuver to avoid the overhead markup of local cosmetic counters.  Because the items I chose were not ON-sale items on StrawberryNET they still had on-hand markup, like LM Tinted Moisturizer is US$42 (Php1720) on the LM website but without discounts on Strawberry NET it’s $54 and the NARS blush on the NARS site is US$28 but here it was listed for $32.  Directly from the brand sites both items in total would cost $70 but that’s not inclusive of the steep shipping fees.  Wait, I know what you’re thinking “then WTH did you save if StrawberryNET had markup?”, I’m almost there…LOL, before you think I’m a twit let me finish.  So basically what my 14% discount did was knock out the StrawberryNET on-hand markup and bring the $86 StrawberryNET total of both items down to a grand total of $74.  It’s as if I was able to buy both items directly from BOTH brand websites without any shipping fees or overhead mark-up PLUS I got a KORRES compact powder of $44 value for free.  For the Korres compact I deliberately picked a darker shade because I was running out of pressed powder for dark skin in my professional kit.  So to wrap up, I paid under Php3100 for both an LM Tinted Moisturizer and a NARS blush plus I got a Korres gift with purchase!  What I absolutely love about StrawberryNET is discounts can be compounded, so these discounts apply even on top of already discounted Christmas specials available right now on the site.  It just turns out what I wanted weren’t on sale in the end.  Today’s the last day for the gift with purchase offer and if you’re a StrawberryNET shopper you may have overlooked the “We Miss You” discount if you haven’t shopped for awhile, so better check your inboxes!… To full post & COMMENTS...

Ellis Faas Luxury Make-Up | Now Available on StrawberryNet HK

Who is Ellis Faas?  She’s a Dutch make-up artist whose professional expertise, ingenuity, technical skill, and keen creative craft eventually spawned her self-named makeup range which is nothing short of chic, high-end, and futuristic all at once.  The Ellis Faas makeup range starting from November is now available here from StrawberryNET HK, which means…hello…we have access to it!  Hers was one of those product launches that hit the news near the end of 2009 before it was officially released in February of 2010 and when I caught wind of it it felt like the sort of brand I’d never ever get to touch because it’s just so…far up there.  It’s even way more up there and exclusive than the luxury brands at boutique counters you can waltz over to in high street department stores.  Ellis Faas only happens to be one of the best and most gifted makeup artists in the world.

Having worked for many years in her career with top designers and brands like L’Oreal Paris Ellis is most famous for her own range of products which exactly presents itself as the world’s ultimate makeup arsenal like no other.  Read more to see what the products look like and what I mean when I say that.  I’ve also included a video review by Lisa Eldridge on this product range at the end of the post.… To full post & COMMENTS...

My Anteprima Illustrated Tote Bag – My Most Major HK Purchase

I didn’t expect to find a uniquely classy bag I could afford at this point, but trekking to Citygate in Tung Chung, the 30-min last stop on the orange train line from Hong Kong central, made it possible.  I’d ventured out to visit a friend based near the fishing community of Tai O (a charming, rustic place) and on my way back to the city I scored this absolutely charming, illustrated Anteprima tote at Citygate, for 30% off at the final price of $HK 976/approx. Php5200.

“The brand was conceived by Izumi Ogino in year 1993, in hope of creating a brand for a modern woman with an appreciation for timeless luxury and contemporary style. A woman who can exist anywhere in the world, her flair transcends borders. The ANTEPRIMA woman, as created by IZUMI OGINO.  She has captivated the fashion world since the label’s debut – as its name means in Italian – at Milano Moda Donna in 1998.”ElementsHK.COM

I liked the brand Anteprima the first time I laid eyes on the boutique in Singapore.  It’s a brand that absolutely gets me.  Anteprima basically means “a preview” or “debut” in Italian but it was created by the effortlessly beautiful Japanese designer, Izumi Ogino in the mid 90s.  She absolutely loves Italy and works mostly with materials from that region and always presents her collections in Milan. Izumi’s dainty but modern creations remind me of a more delicate Asian take off from luxury brands that know women inside out.  These brands get that it’s not about being full-blown regal 24/7, it’s also about being elegantly chill in those moments when you need to be.  Brands like those aren’t afraid to get playful in terms of design and know how to do it properly, NOT AT the expense of taste, like for example Chanel or Kate Spade.

Anteprima is mainly known for its famously pretty and dainty “wire bags” as well as shoes and dresses, but those were off the budget for me.  Read more to get the full review, a closer look at the bag’s features, and my musings on this bag that I’m quite happy to own.… To full post & COMMENTS...
