And so it happened that somehow I managed to find myself with a couple of comforting delights flavored with my favorite full-leaf tea which had to mean it was worthy of a post centered on everything Earl Grey. A couple of lovely brands over at the Legazpi Sunday market sweetly indulged me with Earl Grey flavored treats and helped make this post possible. Mom got me the ice cream elsewhere. You can’t imagine how pleased I looked smiling upon all of them together (actually, only 4 things on top of my requisite grey sweater)…I almost clapped LOL.
CLOCKWISE: Merry Moo Earl Grey Ice Cream (local artisanal ice cream, made with milk from free range cows), Fat Fingers PH Earl Grey Macarons (filled with Earl Grey tea infused dark & milk chocolate ganache), HURRAW Cold-Pressed Vegan Earl Grey Lip Balm from Cutieverse, Twinings Earl Grey Tea Bags.
I’ll now have to admit that I haven’t blogged about Merry Moo Earl Grey Ice cream ever since I first discovered it…kind of on purpose because I wanted to keep it a secret (it’s always in limited stock…*hits the backspace key…sighs and moves on* lol). Merry Moo is a wonderful local ice cream brand that does uniquely marvelous ice cream in artistanal flavors like Candied Bacon (tried it, it isn’t weird at all), Strawberry Basil, Honey Comb, Salted Dark Chocolate, a couple of others and THANKFULLY Earl Grey Tea as well. You can see some of the tea leaf flecks in the ice cream below.
Merry Moo’s Earl Grey offering is creamy, sophisticated and significantly yummy, if you like milk tea, I guarantee you’ll like this ice cream.
Merry Moo have a lot of kiosks in the Metro and sell ice cream to eat or in Php300.00 pints to take home, they’re also at the Legazpi Sunday Market but don’t always have lots of pints on hand there, the ice cream is mostly scoops to go at the market. The main kiosks I’m aware of are 4th flr foodcourt in SM Aura, EchoStore Market Market, Taguig, Glorietta 4 foodcourt (flr. before cinemas). There are more kiosk branches though, check out their Facebook page for the full list. In case your sweet tooth ain’t sore enough yet, the friendly people of Fat Fingers PH and Cutieverse.com put together a joint gift just for meeeee :D. A combined present encasing my favorite Hurraw Earl Grey Lip Balm AND…OMY WAIT FOR IT… Earl Grey Tea flavored macarons filled with dark chocolate Earl Grey infused ganache
Fan me, say my name, help me stand.
I won’t even begin to talk about my repeatedly mentioned ALL-TIME favorite lip balm past this next sentence. This balm is nothing but good, HURRAW was praised by NYLON magazine for merging the convenience of the pocket-able chap balm with the good of better ingredients, it tastes like Earl Grey, in the most comforting way plus the balm is cold-pressed and vegan. That was a really long run-on next sentence. As for these macarons, to be fair to you readers I will have to admit for your sake they are on the pricy side per piece (around Php45 each) but honestly these ARE YUMMY (just wish they were bigger for the price). Hint-hint @fatfingersPH I love your macarons but I must be honest. The macarons I tried abroad in Williamsburg, NYC were 75 UScents each (about Php33) they had drawings on them and they were about 25% bigger (not sure if I’m making a fair economic comparison but thought I’d mention for honesty’s sake). God must’ve worked to make the team behind Fat Fingers bring two of my favorite dessert flavors together in these macarons…Earl Grey Tea and Dark Chocolate filling to set me free…so, so yummy. At home once in awhile I sit with a cup of Earl Grey tea while reading, but sometimes I get lost in thought and I forget to pull out the tea bag and it becomes too dark.Just thought I’d share a couple of my favorite Earl Grey treats since I acquired them all together this week.
It’s actually good that I had this non-beauty post lined up…I really did just randomly decide yesterday to not blog about beauty today, gosh I would have never foreseen Robin William’s passing . I almost wouldn’t have been able to do makeup stuff at all with this huge universal ache many of us share today. Why did the world’s relentless, giddy, funny man have to leave? Another question unanswered for now. I know, I am genuinely really sad about this. Let’s hold hands, crow to the heavens and shout BANGARANG because the whole world needs to right now. Who’s gonna make us laugh now, Robin? It’s so strange that right now we need you because of you…am I making any sense?
Okay, seriously, I have not been THIS excited about eye makeup in AGES. My go-to eye look since NYC has basically been just curl and mascara on repeat. Weeks and weeks ago I did try and swatch this Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen on my hand (called that but it’s a pencil) which they probably call a pen because of how smooth it glides on but I hadn’t had the chance to shoot or say anything after all the hospital commotion we had after I got back from abroad. What seems like “just an eyeliner” does so much more. I fell for it again when I recently used it on some bridesmaids I made up at a wedding. It’s soft when it glides on but sets and becomes waterproof after a few minutes. I also discovered what a wonderfully dual purpose product it actually is. It helps me create Charlotte Tilbury inspired smoky eyes.
“Waterproof, super-long-wear, no-smudge, no-budge eye liners. They glide on like seamless silk, and in a single sweep motion create a flawless, solid jewel-toned line. No retouching required all day – or night! Gentle on eyes, yet intensely coloured and super-silky. Waterproof. Paraben-free. Mineral oil-free. Preservative-free. Hypoallergenic. (Formulated with Vitamin E to nourish the eye area).” Php740.00 from GlamourBox here l PIXI UK is also available at Ava.ph, seektheuniq.com, Pure Beauty boutiques (Serendra & Alabang Town Center), Commonthread Rockwell & Greenbelt 5, Plana Forma and select Snoe outlets.
This eye pencil (notice they didn’t just label it “eyeliner’) is awesome because it glides on silky but gives you a super reasonable amount of time to blend it over the lid if you’re using it as an eyeshadow, about a good 4-5minutes. It really is the eyeliner range of Pixi cosmetics because the brand really has its own collection of LidLast Shadow pens, but these eyeliners also work miraculously well as eyeshadow as you can see and on my for the last 5 hours so far it hasn’t creased and I was sweating today.
I’m not pulling your leg when I say on my eyes I’m only wearing this Pixi Silky Eye pencil in Bronzebeam and mascara. I applied the pencil all over the lid up to the crease, used a small crease eyeshadow brush to blend it out quickly in the crease before it set. I lined the upper lashline again after blending over the lid to bring back intensity then I lined underneath the eyes, curled lashes and applied mascara. That’s it. Two products = smudgeproof smoky eyes, pencil then mascara. No faffing around with eyeshadow if you’re not up to it, but you can also add some on top if you like.
SKIN BASE: Happy Skin Zz (ZitZapping) SPF20 Cream Foundation (review here) BROWS: K-palette 1 Day Tattoo Brow Pen, EYES: Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pencil “Bronzebeam”, LASHES: Revlon Lash Potion Waterproof mascara,
The shade I have also reminds me of a Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadow I admired on my friend Charlotte before called “Skylark”. It’s this really warm bronze that’s almost copper, a hue that’s rich and gorgeous all the way. It’s so pretty you’d think bronze or copper would look redundant against brown or hazel eyes, but it still looks chic. That’s why it’s important that the mascara you use is very black for contrast. I so like how without black eyeliner in the way the lashes just pop out against the bronze. I find that this pencil is a great affordable dupe for Charlotte Tilbury’s highly acclaimed colour chameleon eyeshadow pencils. These pencils come in about 14 shades on the UK site, I’m not quite sure how many shades are available locally, but I’m very happy I was sent this one. As a liner, once it sets, it’s not going anywhere like those well-known gel eyeliners. I guess the difference is how fantastic this looks over the lids when blended out, true testament to a great formula. Did I mention how I absolutely dig the color I was sent? It’s called Bronzebeam, they couldn’t have thought of a better name for this shade. Follow Pixi UK Cosmetics at @pixibeautyPH and @glamourboxPH both on Instagram.
If you liked Happy Skin cosmetics’ Ss Second Skin cream which boasted of its smoothly effective silicone-free formula as a wearable everyday base, then get ready for this! Introducing their new Zz Zit Zapper Cream which is basically the Ss Cream but sheerer and with the power of Grapefruit antioxidants and skin brightening ingredients. The Happy Skin team has never ceased to amaze me thus far with their awesome new products and they just keep rolling prettily with the punches. Congrats Gals, you’ve come out with yet another good one!
“This non-silicone foundation does not clog pores and is infused with Grapefruit Extract. Rich in antioxidants, grapefruit is touted as the new skin care secret. It effectively prevents skin acne and sebum oxidation, the trigger that starts pimples. It keeps troubled skin soft & supple, too. Wonder food Yoghurt Extract treats and minimizes the growth of acne bumps & plugs, and also serves as a skin brightener helping lighten scars & blemishes. Licorice Stem & Root Extracts act as anti-irritants that help reduce redness & irritation, thanks to their anti-inflammatory and skin soothing properties. Salicylic Acid helps exfoliate pores and eliminate the clogging residue that causes breakouts. This contains SPF 20 PA++ and is suitable for all skin types especially blemished skin.” Php1299 at Beauty Bar, Plains and Prints, and Rustan’s – HappySkinCosmetics.com #happyskinbeauty
One thing that came to mind when I saw this new Zz Cream release at a private bloggers’ launch last week was the ever popular Origins’ VitaZing, remember how popular that daytime base was about a year and a half ago? It’s still an old favorite of many US and UK beauty enthusiasts till now. It was the product to throw on when in doubt or on a lazy day. Origins’ VitaZing was mainly a moisturizer with barely there coverage and it improved the complexion by depositing a complexion lifting radiant sheen while treating the skin as you can see in this photo example here. Well, Happy Skin’s Zz cream is similar. It provides more coverage than VitaZing while also encouraging the development of brighter healthier skin, this formula is also better for oily skin since it’s oil-free and has some controlling properties. While the Zz Cream claims to help treat and protect troubled oily skin it is still safe and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive types like mine. Here’s a before and after shot.
In these shots I’m wearing no base makeup at all and then in the after shot I applied the Zz cream evenly over my face and neck just with my hands and put on their classic lippie in “Crushing on You”. I think the whole Origins VitaZing craze sort of explains to me why Happy Skin’s Zz cream has come out only in one shade. It’s not mainly supposed to be a makeup base range as much as it is a complexion boosting treatment with coverage for skin that needs more fight to it against skin evil and pollutants.
If you feel that the universal shade is still slightly too light for your own skintone even if it’s sheer my tip is to balance it out by setting it on top with your own shade of pressed powder to help balance the color and make it your own. I finished my Miss Dior Eau de Toilette a couple of weeks before I left for the US last April. It hadn’t occurred to me while I was there to shop for a new signature fragrance that wasn’t too far off from the properly done floral elegance of Miss Dior. I like floral fragrances but only if they are formulated in an especially unique way that doesn’t smell annoying and invites people to hang around you :). Up ’til the launch of Beauty Scents PH outlet store in Paseo Center, Laguna I had not smelt the simple joy that is Elie Saab’s Le Parfum scent. As proven to me while at a private bloggers’ dinner last night there is something warmly well-received about this fragrance. A handful of them who weren’t aware asked me what I was wearing and so did the event guest of honor, was flattered. The brand owner even mentioned she’s not a perfume person but she wanted to know what I was wearing. It’s one of those woodsy florals that’s done right, and the subtle inclusion of honey in the fragrance I think helps round off the scent tagging it as Mediterranean inspired. To me, mentally it smells like the memory of a beautifully calm person with infectious joy. I owe my prized scent selection to a tip-off.

A harmony of white flowers, cedar woods and a drop of honey creates an encounter as feminine as the trail of an evening gown. An addictive, refined fragrance with a Mediterranean spirit. The exceptional in the everyday.

Before I spied Elie Saab at the Beauty Scents PH (Paseo Center, Sta. Rosa, Laguna) launch last week after a tip-off. At Beauty Scents they sell select fragrance brands individually and by gift sets at nearly half-price, they also sell some cosmetics. I was admiring another beautiful scent across the room (Dior’s J’ adore) but the bottle’s appearance wasn’t my type. Then a kind person pointed me in the direction of Elie Saab which according to her was sort of in the same fragrance vein as J’adore, but younger smelling and packaged better. She claimed that she smelt it already and while nice it wasn’t quite for her. When she saw me on the hunt her memory of the fragrance matched my appearance she said. One spritz from the test atomizer and I was convinced.
This is the original Elie Saab Eau de Parfum debut release which launched in 2011. As bloggers we were allowed to choose a full-size fragrance to review, this is what I chose. When I wore this last night at that blogger event I mentioned it was the first time more than 3 or 4 people asked what fragrance I had on in one night, which was a good sign. They all affirmed it hung around nicely and wasn’t the nauseating sort of perfume. I managed to get the travel spray version of the same fragrance as well for easy application from my handbag while on the go. If you’re one of those girls who leans towards the woodsy, warm, floral category of scents and at your age (late 20s-mid 30s I’d say) now sort of have the feeling you’re past “eau de toilette” mildness this beautiful, appealing fragrance by Elie Saab in Eau de Parfum form is an excellent one to try. Kind of midway in similarity between Miss Dior and J’adore. It’s a keeper.
