The NARS FALL Collection 2015 |That Deep Retro Plume

Make way for the first official seasonal NARS collection feature ever to grace the blog (when I mean official I mean the brand had me to tea, and gave me the scoop) .  It’s an elegant collection and they spared me more than a few pieces to write about.  To be quick on it this is probably the NARS makeup collection that Jared Leto’s forthcoming Joker would go for.  While the collection will be available at Rustan’s the beauty source NARS have also just opened their first ever fully fitted out boutique at Central Square Mall, BGC Taguig.

All together I have: NARS VIP Red lipstick Php1450, Velvet Shadow Stick in Sukothai (duochrome peacock) and Flibuste (black) Php1550, Dual Intensity eyeshadow in Pasiphae Php1550, and lipgloss in Chelsea Girls Php1450) In the complete collection there are 7 Velvet Shadow stick shades in total, two lipglosses, a blush (Tribulante), two single eyeshadow shades, and the red lipstick.

“The look begins with natural sculpting of the face. Eyes dramatize in smoky shimmering brown and golden ombré. Lips captivate in tones of iconic red.  Making its official launch is the Velvet Shadow Stick, a silky, velvety shadow in a range of sumptuous shades for layering under and over, blending and setting, creating looks that are modern, sophisticated and always tempting.”

I decided to wear the dual intensity eyeshadow Pasiphae over Sukothai velvet shadow stick for the eyes.  I am also wearing NARS Pro Prime eyelid primer underneath both.  Instead of the VIP Red lipstick I thought the Chelsea Girls lipgloss they sent me was a better match for dark eyes.

I decided to try shooting at night to capture the glamour of the collection which evokes the richly colored nightlife of the seventies era, and also to try and capture murky teal shadows in the dark.  I think however I might find the other shade of dual intensity eyeshadow, Telesto, much more wearable than Pasiphae.  I do not own Telesto. I like that these dual intensity eyeshadows, while still powder, were created to be used wet or dry.  Despite shimmer you don’t get a ton of heavy fallout, there is a bit of dust, but not at a level that’s a pain to deal with.  The velvet shadow sticks are awesome in pay-off, but kind of so-so when it comes to the finish after blending or some playtime.  Still, at least once used as a base they grab onto powder eyeshadow and make them stay and obey, great for all night partying.

Browhaus HD Waterproof Mascara | Real-looking Boosted Lashes

There are mascaras and then there are MASCARAS, if you know what I mean.  This is the first time that I’ve tried a proprietary product of a brand service.  Without a doubt, here in the Philippines, Browhaus is your trusted brow authority.  The U.S. has Anastasia and we’ve got Browhaus.  Before brides get hitched and if they happen to be particular about their brows they schedule an appointment with Browhaus.  They offer various services from brow reconstruction which involves grooming, definition with makeup application, and other special professional methods to achieve beautifully amplified but natural looking brows.  Their HD waterproof mascara product is not new, in fact, shame on me, I was tapped like around 2 years ago as a blogger to pick this up to try and review…but at that time I was so busy with other things that I didn’t get around to passing by Serendra.  I remember texting apology upon apology about not being able to pass by.  Then I forgot about it. Well, while on a stroll in Serendra I picked their lovely mascara up (properly so, at my expense) I also wanted to pick up one of their brow pencils but they were out of stock.

It’s not a cheap mascara, understandably so being a specially formulated as a hands-on proprietary product. It’s about mid-range to high-end at Php998. However, it performs like crazy and holds curl up.  Read more and continue to the full post to see before and after shots.  … To full post & COMMENTS...

Maxipeel Fresh & Natural Skin Purifier (Glycolic Toner) | PART 1 Possible Dupe for Clarins Exfoliating Toner?

If you are allergic to AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) or do not employ toning as a step after cleansing then move on from this post, it is not for you.  If you’re into acid toning and exfoliation have a seat, put up your feet, relax your face.  Believe me when I say in all honesty I never thought I’d be blogging about Maxipeel on my site and this is NOT a sponsored post.  I am a bit of a skincare snob because I have highly sensitive skin and am VERY hard to please when it comes to skincare.  I don’t test and try out EVERY single skincare facial thing which is for the face, my face is a sacred place.   Especially, no offense, Maxipeel, *peace* but on this site honesty reigns, and well-fit pun unintended, let’s FACE it, the brand is not primarily known for gentle skincare products.   However, this new product they’ve launched, the Skin Purifier (cough* toner please) is on so many levels quite different from the rest they currently have.  I’ve made the jump and patch tested it and so far it is crazy different in what could possibly be a very good way.  Now available at Watsons is Maxipeel’s Fresh and Natural Skin Purifier which LOL is essentially what they are hesitating to call a glycolic exfoliating toner.  It is what it is, an AHA toner.  It’s got salycilic and lactic acid thrown in for good measure.  Read thoroughly and I suggest wait for my PART 2 post before dashing out and trailing a cloud of smoke to buy it.  I will tell you though, my first impression is good…quite good.

maxiFRESNAT_02

MAXIPEEL PURIFIER INGREDIENTS: Alcohol Denat., Aqua (water), Niacinamide, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Salycilic Acid, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium Ascorbate, Tocopherol, Retinol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Fragrance, Tetrahydrodiferuloylmethane, Bisabolol, Menthol

For Sampleroom.Ph members the Maxipeel Fresh & Natural Skin Purifier is available for sampling here, last I checked there were 207 samples left, 53 had been taken already.

When the delivery of Maxipeel’s Fresh & Natural Purifier arrived for me to review (they strangely refuse to call it a toner), I didn’t think much of it at first glance, until I inspected the ingredients list.  It looked extremely familiar.  Upon my first overnight impression with this product today I phoned my mother asking what time she’d be home (my laptop is broken, repairmen say motherboard and processor will soon die) so I could put a post up straightaway.  I was excited because of my overnight patch test experience.  Along the lower part of my jaw only I swabbed this product on before bed last night and I woke up with that area being baby-butt soft and smooth compared to the rest of my face.  For once, at long last, I believe Maxipeel may have hit the nail on the head with a NEW product that the local market has been thirsting for and needing to understand the use of, an affordable exfoliating glycolic acid toner, which apparently, Maxipeel prefers to call a Skin Purifier (wrinkles nose).  My take on this product will be recorded in two parts, today you will have my first impressions from my patch test.  This toner is not alcohol-free but effectively countered by glycerin for a non-drying soothing effect making the Maxipeel Skin Purifier somewhat comparable to the acclaimed Clarins Exfoliating Brightening Toner, a C. Hirons’ favorite, but the Clarins one has more Glycerin.  You can read about that Clarins product separately here and in her 2015 Top 10 Acid Toners here, she also somewhat defends its alcohol content.

maxiFRESNAT_03

CLARINS EXFOLIATING BRIGHTENING TONER ING.: WATER/AQUA,ALCOHOL,GLYCERIN,BUTYLENE GLYCOL,TROMETHAMINE,GLYCOLIC ACID,PPG-5-CETETH-20,TARTARIC ACID,CELLULOSE GUM,ARGININE,TAMARINDUS INDICA EXTRACT,DISODIUM EDTA,SALICYLIC ACID,LAMIUM ALBUM FLOWER EXTRACT,PARFUM/FRAGRANCE,SAMBUCAS NIGRA FLOWER EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED OPUNTIA FICUS-INDICA FLOWER EXTRACT,PHENOXYETHANOL, SORBIC ACID, MIMOSA TENUIFLORA BARK EXTRACT, SODIUM BENZOATE,ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN,POTASSIUM SORBATE, BENZYL SALICYLATE, GERANIOL, CITRONELLOL, BENZYL BENZOATE,BUTYLPHENYLMETHYLPROPIONAL, HYDROXYISOHEXYL 3-CYCLO HEXENE CARBOXALDEHYDE, LIMONENE, HEXYL CINNAMAL

I know the Maxipeel team would rather not call it a toner for some odd marketing reason, but it is what it is, they should run with what it really is nalang in my opinion (so market won’t be confused).  So far believe it’s an immediately effective and active toner for the price if used properly and sparingly.  The brand claims a “purging period” where it may draw out sudden spots and an army of blackheads or whiteheads for some of you at the beginning, the Hirons, however, does not professionally believe in purging periods.  She says if you begin breaking out you should stop whatever it is and move on.  Skin tells you flat out what it does not like.  Now, it’s a different thing if the product that causes initial purging is medically prescribed by a dermatologist, that’s where you can stay on board in a sense and allow the cycle to complete.  The price of the Maxipeel Purifier is a somewhat scary only Php79 peso mark…but perhaps it’s possible with a parallel example in the world of cameras, you never know, this toner could be our cheap nifty fifty (50mm), the effective but ever so necessary and usable lens you need all the time.  We shall see.  Click through to read the rest of my initial observations and thoughts.… To full post & COMMENTS...

My No Makeup Makeup Video JULY 2015

I’m really beginning to enjoy how my IKEA Glasholm desk has changed my life in terms of productivity just in the last 3 days.  For one it’s easier to film videos now that my camera and tripod can go on top of my desk and shoot me with a full blast of window light.  So, yes, I did film another video and wow, a miracle, only 11 minutes in total!  That means I’m either getting better at shooting or editing.

It isn’t the most PERFECT no makeup makeup tutorial (I’m almost sure I can do a better one once my shoot setup improves) but it perfects what I believe in terms of amounts of product and the types of tones.  I’m still at a point where my makeup application on myself when I’m NOT filming is a couple of notches better compared to when I’m filming myself.  It’s all about learning to brush off the tension, and self-conscious spirals I guess, I’m much better at this video thing but I’m still learning.  Thank you all for being warm and patient.  You can watch my No Makeup Makeup Video here or watch it from the embedded player below.

My New Flototto PRO Chair in Snow White | The Glass Desk Workspace Sequel

Back on the home front, I anticipated the arrival of a thing of beauty, that was actually already mine for months but was in storage.  So, sorry if this non-beauty post is slightly redundant, but it just had to be written.  Without a decent and equally classy desk before I just didn’t have the heart to pick up my beautiful chair from my aunt who along with her German husband are the local distributors for Flototto products through BOOGI, their premium modern furniture store at LRI Design Plaza in Makati.  I’ll put it plain, these aren’t cheap chairs, but they are ergonomic, flame-resistant, and thanks to German durability will last a lifetime or more.  A lot of love, thought, and care went into the design of the entire Flototto furniture range.

IMG_9590_1024x768

Meet the enchanting Flototto PRO Wood Tetrapod Chair which I photographed today, and only now I discover that the shade name is Snow White, obviously destined to be paired with my glass table (her glass coffin remember? I’ve got my tales sorted).

Its ergonomic design encourages good posture and comfort, even when carrying the chair to transfer it to another location you will sense that the design works with you, and not against you.  I experienced this ease of mobility while carrying the chair downstairs to take a photo of it.  I figured I’d do a workspace post sequel since many of you have not seen the very final outcome of my workspace overhaul now that it is complete with my Flototto chair.  By the way, I do not own a Macbook Pro, my current laptop is practically dying. This one is my mother’s…I borrowed it to edit another video that I have actually just uploaded today.  This is how my workspace finally looks.   Click through to see the full post and more photos.… To full post & COMMENTS...

New Beauty Stuff YouTube Video x An Actual Tutorial

After 3 whole weeks, I finally almost sort of get the vlogging setup I’ve always dreamed of.  I overhauled my bedroom, got an affordable desk, and all that made filming in my safe and comfy zone rather than in our living room way more possible and picturesque!  Watch the video here or in the player below this image.  I will post the list of products but I’ll edit that in tomorrow morning because I am falling asleep right as I type this.  The products are mentioned and typed into the video.

The All-Natural Sea Sponge | Fanny Serrano’s Choice “Beauty Blender”

Ayaw ko ng plastic…for the skin” said the make-up master as he began priming the model’s face with clean water using this beauty blender-sized Spongebob.  Don’t we all agree with that line on another level?  Ayaw natin ng plastic.  Apparently natural sea sponges are Fanny’s true way to go when it comes to using clean water as a mixing and buffing medium with his makeup products.  He claims his makeup withstands the utmost heat and humidity (sometimes longer than airbrush makeup) when he literally waterproofs the face with his specifically applied layers.  I’m sorry to say though in respect for now I am withholding specific source details on how I purchased these (he has a special source somewhere in the country) to protect Fanny’s peace, resources, and privacy.

They wash well and as long as most water is squeezed off they air-dry beautifully.  To return them to their most natural, soft state before use and also to naturally disinfect I might try steeping them in cold water with a dash of sea salt, this is not yet tried and tested but I plan to experiment.

Since I was invited to learn from him he warmly said I could purchase them directly from him and no, they weren’t expensive.  He uses this as a tool to bring out the best in his wet application of his FS Cake Foundation powder (the rectangle compact).  I love the look of these sea sponges because they’re such a lovely naturally dim yellow shade and none of them have the same shape.  Fanny specifically sources them in these beauty blender sizes.  They remind me of that scene where the birds help Cinderella bathe in the original Disney animated feature, you can watch that scene here at 2:25.  When I was a child I was always fascinated by the sponge in that scene, how one large sponge managed to give Cinderella a full bath LOL, and sometimes I recall rewinding that part.  Apparently that dream was a wish my heart made.… To full post & COMMENTS...

If the Glass Desk Fits | IKEA Glasholm Php3900

Workspace goals, check.  In all honesty, at first, a glass desk was not the one on the list.  I had cycled and recycled the thought of having a stereotypical beauty enthusiast workspace.  You know…like someone might have stuffed more and more white IKEA storage into my room.  Later, the cheerful concept of a museum for a room turned marmite on me.  It suddenly didn’t seem practical because I almost always have makeup on my hands when I’m testing makeup, or after having cleaned my brushes.  I had a daymare of an infestation of flesh fingerprints covering the ever popular IKEA Alex drawers or my imaginary IKEA Micke desk (there are several Micke desks, I first eyed the narrow white one with a single roll-out drawer, out of stock locally).  I began to think and internalize more whilst in the belly of an IKEA stockist’s showroom.  I’m not against any of you who just love how white brings in the added light while providing an instant surface for blogging or Insta-pushing everything pretty, I get you.  If, for example, you live in a polluted city in a cramped space more WHITE is definitely your answer to opening things up and giving the illusion of more breathable space.  I just wasn’t so sure I wanted that completely white feel personally for me.  I’m a lazy lout when it comes to making sure things are spotless white all the time.  I just want things to STAY WHITE without my maintenance  (brat LOL).  Did I love the concept of having everything white in my room or did I begin to hate it?  Would I decide to turn my room into a safe-to-say contrived blanc manifestation of tons of popularly curated, dreamy minimalist Instagram feeds?  Roomspiration is okay, I don’t mean to be a snob, just thinking for myself here.  In my mind, especially after seeing Essie Button rock that beautifully clean, white home office (which completely suits her fancy for curating artsy, colorful objects) , I remained tempted to do the same.  That is, of course, until I saw this IKEA Glasholm glass desk which felt like more of a step in the grown-up direction for me, and it was the exact same price as the other IKEA table I originally visited the store for.  I also didn’t mind that it didn’t have any drawers, I mainly want my desk to be something I do stuff on, not store stuff in.

Along with getting a new desk I played a bit with an alternative way to use my LED fairylights in my room even when Christmas-time hasn’t reared its red and green head yet.

dreamdesk_03

Hiding the fairylights in this basket surrounding the bottoms of magazines gives your “magazinspo” spot a bit of a magical glow at night, great idea as well for children’s books for bedtime stories or their favorite soft toys.  It’s just something I suddenly thought of, no Pinterest or pegs involved.  This basket of magazines however in the last 4 days has since migrated to beneath the desk (but it obstructed my feet) and now is to the left of the desk by the window on top of a chest, still glowing by sunset.

dreamdesk_01

A couple of deciding factors on choosing the IKEA Glasholm desk had nothing to do with appearance.  Laguna has extremely high humidity.  I have an 8 year old IKEA cubby in white compressed wood which began peeling and warping at the corners around 2 years ago so this glass desk is a keeper.  I also wanted something that resisted getting smudged or visibly dirty and was super easy to clean so that I could eat meals on it if my family was not home, make an art mess on if I felt crafty, and spill makeup on if I was experimenting.  I also wanted something minimalist yet sturdy so the Glasholm desk was my answer.  It was a cinch to assemble, the glass underneath has 4 round, stainless metal wells and the legs come with screw-tops so you just twist them in.  The glass isn’t transparent but it beautifully reflects the sky and will probably give me a sangria surface during a beautiful sunset.  I also can’t wait to set a vase or mason jar of fresh flowers on top eventually or even write erasable reminders/doodles on the surface with colored glass pens.  For the good value price of Php3900 from an IKEA stockist I’m pretty stoked to have picked this up.  It got me blogging right away as you can see, and I finally have a place to plant myself for more productivity.
