Bless My Bag Posts

MARCH SIX, TWO THOUSAND SIX

We’re not waiting for Thursday.  I once had a spot somewhere on blogspot where I vented way too many emotions online, as one does in her early twenties.  My early twenties, as opposed to my tame teens, were the most rollercoaster-ish years of my life in the realm of circumstance (then…little did I know) and ultimately also somewhat of a renaissance for me Spiritually.  However, note that I botched up the Bible reading about Adam and Eve here at my friend’s wedding, too long a story to explain why here, just know that somewhere at the end it was an epic fail LOL.  The title of this post is not based on this picture…but on my archived blog post from way back below.

Even if you don’t feel the least bit spiritual, whatever, keep reading.  A post was supposed to go up about the Oscars red carpet style lineup, but because of where I’m currently at in life I didn’t feel like collecting material for it yesterday.  Hardly any of it interested me thanks to the fact that I’m currently bound to real life things that need doing this week ’til next week.  Real life responsibilities are taxing on the mind (literally).  No worries, will still find a way to blog beauty daily or at least post SOMETHING daily but they’ll be shorter posts if I’m way too busy.  This space was certainly made for a much needed calm before the plunge.  I’ll be 33 this year, soon.  Fancy reading a little bit of 23-year old me?  Then proceed.  I was just in a moment earlier where I very much needed to consult me from 10 years ago, because right at that time my heart was on the right track.

The Teacher of Trust

I often wonder why it is that daily, as we all mature, things we want, big or small, or even situations and problems in our lives become harder to lift up to God, and the more difficult part even is leaving it there with Him, trusting Him with ALL of it. It sounds simple lang pero lam naman natin na it doesn’t feel simple for us. We’re reminded repeatedly, at least those of us who believe in God’s will for every good and perfect thing to come to pass. Yet, I still fear or agonize over the unknown. What do I do when I know how I should be, but deep inside my spirit is still restless?

I used to feel guilty about saying I trust Him then still having that feeling inside that I don’t. I’d suddenly remember the words “come as you are” from many Christian songs and I’d break down lots of times knowing I have no choice but to come before God with my doubt, with my fear and whatever it is I want Him to take or trust Him for. I can only run to Him knowing that no matter how dirty I am He’ll still embrace me…and even kiss me for coming to Him for answers and comfort.

A lot of people read Jeremiah 29:11. The familiar lines of this verse have comforted many through centuries. Recently, I found that reading the passage through all the way to verse 13 brings even more comfort than one expects to find in verse 11. For any of us who are searching and learning to trust, we can read and rest in His words.

“‘For I know the plans that I have for you’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
‘And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

BOBBI’S EASIEST MATTE BROWN EYE

I’ve been loving lots of Bobbi Brown again after awhile.  Beauty brand appreciation ebbs and flows that way in my life, different things wash up on shore.  What I’ve recently been showing by Bobbi are not press samples and funnily enough not my own purchases.  Stella’s mom, my aunt, was so happy with how I prepped my cousin for prom that she said I could pick out a few nice things at Rustan’s.  Here’s a quick post for you.  The saleslady put this Bobbi Brown Long-wear Cream Shadow Stick in Sand Dune on my Tita’s lids and immediately I was on it, I said I’d take one of these.

Sand Dune looked like a blended matte powder eyeshadow in a shade one could only describe in this way, it’s like your lids (if you are a medium-fair as I am) put out a mat and lay basking in the sun…leaving behind a desert taupe effect that’s subtle, yet noticeable.  Read on to see the full effect, by day and by night.

SHAPE GOALS AND A SOFT RESTART

I’ve wanted to get back onto the fitness bandwagon since last year.  Wanting and prioritizing are two different things.  We moved, then Christmas happened, and my grandfather passed away just after New Year.  In our Quezon City space, to be honest, there’s no space do a decent burpee move without an imminent concussion.  Moving North (note Maginhawa chapter) meant eating whatever you make or are given, then we had Christmas with loved ones, (even more food right), then 4 days of funeral services with more loved ones and food like every 4 hours.   A week later I’m putting on my denim shorts and upon zipping up and trying to sit I’m like “Why do these feel like the seat of a rappel harness?”.  People tell me “Julia, you never gain weight” because they see my arms, my neck, my collarbone, and my waist which are small or at least defined.  Ever since high-school if anything at all does expand it always happens below the waistline, my hips, bum, and legs especially.  In spite of still shuttling between two locations (hopefully less now) I knew it was about that time to hit the mat again no matter what the circumstances were because I never really believed in dieting from a lifetime perspective.  So, how did I restart my fitness journey today?

fitnessRestart_01

Let me quickly fill you in on the first two gentle full video workouts I decided were best to ease me in.  They’re great and low impact so I don’t suffer too much the next day and risk less injury, but long enough to rotate those joints and stretch your muscles.  These beginner workouts are free, led by professionals on YouTube and all I need is myself and a mat. I hit FIT before (5 months of constant workouts 3-4x a week, no gym account, no personal trainer, you’ll see that in a bit) and I’m confident I can do it again.  Read on to see which routines I did first to get me back and see my simple first objectives and shape goals.

THAT ONE BOBBI BROWN LIPGLOSS

Lipgloss is an iffy thing for some people.  They either hate it or love it.  In my case it seriously depends on how it ticks the boxes for me, one…the shade makes my lips look prettier, two…lasts several hours, three…I’m fine if it’s sticky as long as I can managing mouthing “hello” and “help me” in one second.  I’m not a lipgloss fanatic but I’ve come across two in my lifetime that I’ve used up and I love it on non-occasion days.  Early on it was a dual-ended Urban Decay one from the late 90s that I didn’t open and and only began using in early 2000.  The other is this annoyingly limited edition Bobbi Brown lipgloss in#9 Pink Sugar (from a collection) that I received in a press kit nearly three years ago.  It’s a light baby nude pink with golden micro shimmer.

I was overjoyed to find my Bobbi Brown Pink Sugar gloss again in one of my pouches while clearing out.  It was still good to use, I know that sounds gross, but I smelt and checked it, it’s still good to use on myself.  I have it on hand but am quickly running low on it.  It’s just so wearable on its own and over natural lipstick shades and I’m so sad it isn’t part of their permanent collection.  Read on to see why I like it and how it wears.

MAKEUP ESSENTIALS BY BROWHAUS MNL

Browhaus initially began in 2004 as a Singaporean brow and lash salon.  Your friendly pitstop for those arches is now in 9 cities globally, Manila included.  We’re ever so glad they’re here and they’re a popular spot to hit up especially before big events and weddings just to get those brows and lashes sorted.  It’s been a couple of years in but Browhaus Manila haven’t massively announced a certain fact about what’s in their boutiques.  They’ve only had mini launches, ’til last week that is.  Browhaus Manila carries makeup, too, the sort of makeup range that’s eye-catching yet utilitarian at its core.

  1. Browhaus Classic Brow Lead Php 648.00
  2. Browhaus HD Mascara Php 998.00
  3. Browhaus Precision Eyeliner Php 750.00

You might have read me raving about their HD mascara, it wouldn’t hurt to rave twice and mention their other stuff.  With this sort of makeup range, it so easy for a blogger like myself to put up a post.  I don’t need to explain away on each thing fully because the photos speak for themselves.   Read on for the full post and my obliging face with different things on.
