MY CUSTOM FAKE TAN, PROFESSIONALLY TESTED

There was something I whipped up slash concocted during my shoot for KC’s Closet (blogged about that here) that was highly effective.  It wasn’t particularly mentioned to me in advance but KC required a subtle more summery complexion which would also include tanning her arms.  These are things you learn on the job, that there will be random requests you didn’t foresee and you will have to make adjustments accordingly or be innovative.  I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I was extremely innovative, I just did what I could to meet the demand for lack of a specific product.  Having bronzing and tanning products for body as well is a default requirement for any makeup artist, that had slipped my mind for that day.  Had I not run out of my Chanel Soleil de Tan/Bronze Universelle bronzing balm I would have used that without question, but I used all of that up.  So, I improvised and this combo served me well.

MAC Cosmetics Face & Body Foundation in C7, This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up Moisturizer/Primer Php1977 Sephora PH

An equal dollop of each mixed on the back of my hand saved the day, it did occur to me that I was speedily using up the only tiny bottle of my favorite This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up moisturizer lol, but KC’s neck, arms, and back were worth it.  It is after all, Victoria Beckham’s favorite priming moisturizer in recent years, information relayed by the one and only Val Garland.  Someone like Victoria tweeting about one specific product usually kind of breaks the internet temporarily.  MAC Face and Body foundation  is a thinner, runnier foundation also sold in jumbo bottles (Jigs Mayuga stocked up loads for the last Bench Naked Truth lingerie show).  It is hailed as one of the most flexible on-set liquid foundations that doesn’t contain SPF and looks like actual skin.  It is a modeling and fashion industry standard known for its thin, runny consistency, transfer-proof formula (best for changing clothes) and its juicy but not excessively dewy finish.  It carries nearly invisible but buildable coverage and also works if set with powder.  Makeup artists also love the fact that MAC Face & Body foundation comes in options of Jumbo wholesale and/or travel-friendly size bottles. Read on to see the results of the combo I used.

GOOD DESERT ROSE FAVES ON GOOD FRIDAY

There are a couple of new makeup things I’ve been testing out and liking quite a bit.  At the moment, I’m still developing a look to maybe present next for a video tutorial, today’s look is on its way there but I might amplify it a bit next time for video.  This post will focus on one of these bits in particular, an item I already blogged about in 2011.

NEWFaves_01

WHAT I HAVE ON, CLOCKWISE: NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator  (Gleam), Laura Mercier Infusion de Rose Lip Balm, Fanny Serrano (original, no longer available) lash curler, NYX BB Cream, Catrice Sun Matte Bronzing Powder, L’Oreal False Lash Butterfly Waterproof Mascara, FS Features & Shades eyeshadow in “Frosted Chic”, Maybelline Fashion Brow mascara in Deep Brown, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Abu Dhabi” (reported dupe for Kylie Dolce) Php390,   Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in “Sand Dune”, FS Features & Shades Kohl Eye Pencil in “Caramel”(Shade like MAC Brunette brow pencil, used for eyes and brows), FS Features & Shades Powder Foundation in “Mocha” (new packaging), Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush only to set FS powder under eyes (instructional video for brush and powder foundation here, pressing motion)

Without my even having to mention, you’ll spot that there’s a definite desert rose shade theme running through this selection.  Please note that when I say Desert Rose theme I don’t mean the actual desert rose flower (which is actually a bright fuschia) but more of like my more naked, blushed, fictional take on a desert rose.  I also particularly mention the preferred matte liquid lipstick formula I’ve loved for 5 years.  Read on to see the look I put on today, it’s still wearable and natural, but I’ve switched up products a bit.

FIVE FAVORITE WARMING BLUSHES

Just after mascara rules, blush battles it out with brow product to tie for my favorite makeup item spot.  Blush, bronzer, or face color powders in general just lift the face and feel natural to put on.

BLUSHwarm_08

I’ve been complimented for wearing blush by guys before.  It’s one of the things one can put on that they can safely compliment without receiving too many specifics from you after LOL.  I guess blush might be one of the few makeup items that’s made the minimum amount of sense to dudes for ages, more than any of the other fiddly bits that tend to turn them off like eyeliner, eyeshadow, and lipstick.  Read on to have a peek at five of my favorite warming blushes.

MY BUDGET SUMMER MAKEUP EDIT 2016

I get the random comment about my makeup recommendations being safe for normal and clear skin types.  A good number of you out there, I’ve observed, prefer more coverage.  So, for today’s budget  summer makeup look I am sporting more coverage and a heavier less dewy finish, more than what I’d personally wear.  For those among you who like things more packed in and shine-free I give you this edit.

In the look I do not use the eyeliner but I’ve still added an eyeliner recommendation.  Read on for more on the look and product details.

CATRICE Sun Glow Matte Bronzing Powder

I haven’t been fortunate when it comes to the recent bronzers I’ve picked up…the last three bronzing compacts I’ve owned have all smashed somehow halfway due to random accidents.  My Yves Rocher bronzing powder duo *sniff* dropped at my cousin’s wedding, now phased out locally, my Topshop matte bronzer in Mohawk from the UK that fell before I got to review it (fell off a desk during a job, I’ve pressed it back into the compact but it’s a mess to work with), and my last one which was a heartbreaker, none other than the Pixi Shape and Shadow contour compact (which is awesome by the way).  I’ve picked up a new one from the department store that’s mid-range to affordable in pricing.

CATRICE Sun Glow Matte Bronzing Powder 020 Deep Bronze (Darker Skin…umm, but not really) Php399.00 SM Beauty

Accidents have recently happened to my favorite bronzers when I’m not even halfway in, but never to my blush or powder compacts…strange.  God bless and protect this next one.   I don’t have the budget anymore for something high end and I spotted this Matte Bronzing Powder by Catrice for Darker Skin (which ironically is suitable for medium to fair skin), in SM immediately and swatched it.  I’m pretty glad I did, because it’s wonderful.  Read on for the full post.

Bronzer Buddies | Shedding Light on the Dark Side

Summer is actually over here in the Pacific region, the monsoons are supposed to be checking in any day now.  I’m actually dreading those first three weeks of August that always seem to bring in heavy, torrential onslaughts of rain…wreaking havoc, making floods rise, while keeping people indoors and children away from school.  However it’s been alternatively sunny this mid July, with random showers or downpours here and there, the heat still has not left us, global warming is rubbing it in, the continuous rains are usually in by June but they’re not here yet.  I find it kind of late in the game that I’ve suddenly fallen head first (literally) into an area of beauty that’s never interested me, and given that the idea of actual fake tanning was a juggernaut of a commitment to make… (waiting to naturally be fair again is blech, plus unnaturally adjusting my personal pigment scares me a bit) makeup was the answer for now.

CLOCKWISE: MAC (Ltd. Edition) Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder in Soft Sand, Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder in 00, Makeup Factory (BGC HighStreet) Mineral Compact Powder in #6, and Diorskin Nude TAN BB Creme in 002 (Ltd. Edition S/S 2013)

I’ve only dabbled in contouring, never fully with bronzing which carefully sculpts plus adjusts your complexion as a whole.  I was scared of the earthy stuff, but it intrigued me no end to see my mother hit pan on her bronzer compacts time and time again…she hates blush but loves her bronzers.  Plus the numerous anecdotes of makeup noobs committing to only use bronzer, lip tint, mascara and nothing else while still raking in compliments really had me stumped.  Makeup minimalists more often than not use a bronzer.  I’ve always appreciated the compliments on how naturally fair I am, but I was bored with that.  I had to get the “white edge” off and get a bit of joie d’ vivre  rubbed into my face, to get that you just had to look like the sun-kissed child who’d been to accumulating destinations.  I discovered that bronzer was able to do exactly that for women like me.  In a span of about two months I’ve collected three bronzers (one was an unexpected gift) plus made use of a mineral powder that was too dark for me in the same way, that makes four.  They’re my new favorites.  I was suddenly appreciating and enjoying the possibilities my fairness presented for the first time, for when you are fair you can choose to go dark and in increments that please you, and that’s exactly what I’ve been up to.  To present these to you I slapped on my most recently purchased truly matte foundation (more on that some other day hehe) so they’d glide on more seamlessly.  Read more to see why I like these four products and how I randomly use them, please note this won’t be a complete lesson on contouring but some tips will be mentioned.
