Ecotools Bamboo Bronzer Brush – Eco-friendly, cruelty-free, and great for foundation

Since quite a handful of you asked regarding the brush I used in my last video post, voila, here it is :).  I first spotted this brush via Charlotte’s post on her blog Lipglossiping (one of the UK’s top beauty blogs) and when she used the word “mahoosive” to describe it I couldn’t help but laugh.  The timing of her post was perfect because I was looking for a more affordable alternative to the only buffing brush I already own which almost EVERY model/TVC talent I worked on (guys included) asked about…both guys and girls would come to me for retouches sometimes only because they liked the soothing feel of that Ellana brush on their face!  This Ecotools one though not as dense, performs just as softly on the skin for a better price.

“Create a natural-looking, sun-kissed glow with this beauty editor favorite! Our widely-acclaimed bronzer brush features soft, cruelty-free taklon bristles, a recycled aluminum ferrule and heavy bamboo handle. This brush is packaged in our zip-top, reusable pouch.

The lovely thing about buffing brushes, which is a popular method now, is that you conserve more foundation because it diffuses and buffs out minimal product evenly all over the face, you get the most out of a tiny bit of product and the brush doesn’t drink it up.  The Ecotools bronzer brush is absolutely massive I agree which makes it so ideal for buffing in a base, just like my reviewed Ellana XL Buffing brush (local, Php800 with shipping) which is slightly smaller but the bristles are more densely packed (which I like).  That Ellana one is almost exact super more affordable dupe of the NARS #19 bronzer brush which costs about $50.  I was hoping this Ecotools one would be as dense as my Ellana one but I’m not irritated that it isn’t only by a fraction.  This glides smoothly and softly all over the face, they’d be better kept though if you used brush guards which I believe are sold locally by Suesh Makeup Tools in Greenhills.  Note though, this would also be FAN-TAS-TIK as a mineral powder brush or general setting powder brush and what it was originally named for of course, all over bronzing.

Anyway, I got this at almost a third of the price of the Ellana one at about Php300.00 ($7 US) EACH, free shipping off Ebay from this link.  I found the pricing so worth it and since I believe in Ecotools (their retractable kabuki is in my personal kit) I decided to buy 3 in one go to take advantage of the free shipping offered by the Hong Kong ebay seller I found online, can you imagine…Php900+ for THREE of these?  That’s practically the price of only one Ellana XL Buffing brush (but I think that Ellana one is a step up in density and quality).  I needed more of these because on shoots when there are so many models I’d like to have a brush to use for light, medium, and dark shades of foundation that I can rotate, also so they don’t get disappointed by the fact that I’m only using one brush I repeatedly clean on the spot for all of them.  I suddenly remembered what my Yaya (nanny) used to tell me which I found ridiculous when I was young “1,2,3 means I love you” LOL.   To see how I use this brush go to my last blog post here and watch my video day makeup tutorial.

What’s In It? – MY Full Personal Makeup Kit!

This is a bit anti-climactic dontcha’ think?  It ought to have been one of my first posts perhaps, but then again…over time I’ve collected some really interesting makeup items that work since I’m a makeup professional (folio here) and part-time beauty blogger.  A few of my blogger friends can’t seem to keep their hands off my stash when I’m around for an event and of course it evolves frequently.  Here, however, is my current collection.  There’s one item I took out coz I don’t really use it.  I’ll make a quick mention later.

I use one of Muji’s clear “kikay” kits.  A lot of you must be going “Dapat ba Muji…e ang dami dami diyan na mura” oh yes I’ve had lots of those cheaper versions, the ones with zippers that tear straight off the opening after a few uses and burst or crack open at the seams and creases.  Even some from beabi didn’t work well for me.

“No more” I said, a few months back, I got this medium size, fat clear case from Muji for about Php400 that embraces all without bursting prematurely and is stitched all around with fabric.  So, here are the contents.

Generally from top to bottom, CONTENTS (Reviewed items in bold, complimentary with *) FACE: 1. Shiseido Sun Protection Foundation*, 2. Benefit Hello Flawless OxyWow Foundation*, 3. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural MED, 4. Ellana Perfect Blend Powder foundation Hazelnut Latte, 5. The BALM’S Bahama Mama bronzer/contour compact, 6. UD Primer Potion, 7. The BALM’s Time Balm for Spots, 8. MAC Studio Finish Concealer NC35, 9. Nichido Mineral Concealing Pencil, 10. ECOtools Retractable Travel Face Brush, (whats missing here for blush is my Tarte Amazonian Clay one “Dollface”*, it’s in the pocket of another bag, but it should’ve been here) LIPS: 11. Colour Collection Eye Lip and Cheek tint*, 12. The Body Shop Born Lippy Strawberry balm, 13. ZEN Organics Strawberry Lip Butter, 14. Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, 14. Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream Stick*, 15. NARS Pure Matte lipstick in “Bangkok”, 16. MUFE Rouge Artist Intense lipstick Mat5, 17. MUFE Rouge Artist Intense lipstick #17 (lol, pun unintended)*, 18. Revlon Lip Butter in “Sugar Plum”, 19. Jordana Matte Lipstick in “Taupe”, EYES: 20. Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara, 21. Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Mascara*, 22. Maybelline Hypercurl Volum Express Mascara, 23. Color Collection Triple Effect Mascara*, 24. Anastasia LASH GENIUS Waterproofing formula, 25. MAC automatic brow pencil in Brunette, 26. MUFE Aqua Eyes Liquid Liner, 27. K-Palette 1-Day Tatto Liquid Pen liner, 28. Stila Smudgestick in “Damsel”, 29. MUFE Aqua Eyes waterproof eye pencil, black, 30. Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

I’m pretty surprise at how many of these items I’ve already reviewed and that the kit contains exactly 30 items.  Of course as a follow up to this a few posts ahead I will narrow down the kit to my TOP 10 essentials.  The item I removed was the flesh colored Stila Eye pencil in topaz…it was too melty for our country, too soft.   Am more excited because I have a lot of catching up to do, I have lots of goodies to review for you guys in the next few days, sorry I’ve been busy.  I’ll make it up to you.  Stay tuned for the MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist launch and review of the lipsticks I came away with from that event 🙂… To full post & COMMENTS...

Summerization – Stuff I’ve been using almost everyday now

The heat is on!  I’ve been wanting to do this post for a few days now, but the lazy summer mood got to me.  One or two of these items are new but I’ve been using them practically everyday since I got it, and two of the items are almost empty.

From left (reviewed items in bold): 1. Shikai Natural Color Care Shampoo, 2. Maybelline VolumExpress HyperCurl Waterproof Mascara, 3. The Body Shop Banana Conditioner, 4. BeFine Gentle Cleanser, 5. Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation, 6. Bioderma Sensibio H2O, 7.  Nivea Smoothy Cream calming moisturizer, 8. Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream, 9. MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural baked/pressed powder in shade MEDIUM. (dapat ginawa ko nang 10 para nicer, pero these were the only ones that were top of mind at the moment)

1. Shikai Natural Color Care Shampoo – I picked this up at S&R, I forget now whether it was Fort or Alabang, but both outlets should have it.  It’s about Php500 and I like that it’s a natural lathering, UV shielding color care formula with a light scent and with an ingredients list that isn’t as long as your leg.  I’ll review it soon.  They also have a normal variant for untreated hair.

2. Maybelline VolumExpress HyperCurl Waterproof Mascara – I’ve reviewed this na in the past and I’m liking it even more now. It’s a great ALL-AROUND mascara that holds curl, isn’t too gloopy, doesn’t clump and gives just the right of volume without smudging.

3. The Body Shop Banana Conditioner   –  I LOVE THIS.  Basically, this is how good it is, it’s got that yummy tropical scent, if you like bananas and a bit of coconut, I don’t think there’s coconut but something in it smells similar.  It’s made my color-treated hair feel like untreated healthy hair.  So far I don’t get the “frizzy” dryness that usually accompanies colored hair and I’ve got bounce and shine.  Bananas in Pajamas, gotta give it to ’em.  I use this every other day when shampooing.  I don’t shampoo everyday to let my hair and scalp be themselves for a bit, chemical-free at least for a day in between and also to avoid unnecessary hair-fall.  I’m also not a sweaty person so that’s not disgusting for me to have a non-shampoo day.  They’re on sale 50% off until April 26.

4. BeFine Gentle Cleanser – I had to switch over my facial cleanser months ago because my face was suddenly mildly rejecting the Clean & Clear foaming glycerin facial wash I’ve loved for years.  I think it just needed a break from unnatural chemicals.  So I picked up this BeFine Gentle Cleanser from Beauty Bar, which isn’t cheap at Php900 for 100ml but it lasted me a LONG time (2-3months) because of its economical pump.  It’s a paraben free, cruelty free cleanser made of mint, oats, rice and sugar.   It took some getting used to because of the minty scent on the face when lathering up, a bit like the scent of a good minty toothpaste, but there’s no annoying menthol cooling feel, don’t worry.  My skin feels light,  refreshed and ready for a little moisturizer and I don’t get the annoying itch after.

Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation SPF 30 – My New Fave High-End Liquid Foundation

It’s actually strange that I’m posting this review first because this is part of a batch of sponsored items that arrived for me from StrawberryNET.  Normally I’d present the group arrival first before individually reviewing the items, but this foundation was just so beautiful in finish and so perfect for me I just had to put it up to show you already.  StrawberryNET contacted me then sent me on a sponsored $50.00 “shopping spree” on their site (I took forever in choosing) as part and parcel of a thank you for featuring them in the past and also requested continued support in blogging bout them once I received the items I chose, more on that when I blog bout the group.  This Shiseido Sun Protection foundation is my most prized “purchase” from the loot that StrawberryNET paid for.

ON THE BOX: “Resists perspiration, water, and oil to maintain a soft matte look on skin, even during outdoor activities.  Glides on smoothly and evenly; feels non-sticky and feather-light.” I’m telling you now, that sweet stuff written on the box turned out to be true, for me at least.

Thin, runny bases with excellent medium to full coverage are a booming revolution in the makeup world.  You can politely ask this one to stand beside the likes of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and Estee Lauder’s New Invisible Fluid foundation (which Lisa Eldridge demonstrated in this video), those foundations both come in shaker bottles as well with proper nozzles instead of pumps for the runny formula.   It’s practically flawless and to my delight, and with a little help from viewing another blog Delicate Hummingbird  the foundation shade I chose online SP40 matched me perfectly (author has the same skin color as I do but sadly has stopped blogging as of Jan, dunno why *depressed*) normally with MAC I’m an NC30-35.  Read more for the full post to see photos of me wearing this lovely foundation.
