Current Beauty Faves in a Bangkang Papel – Prayers and Batibot Memories

Do any of you remember the local TV show Batibot?  If you were born in the late 70s to mid-80s you probably do.  Aside from watching Sesame Street I also watched Batibot whenever I caught it on TV.  Yes, at the time I lived in Dasmariñas in a big house with my Lola and I was a teeny-weeny bit spoiled as an only kid, but shows like Batibot in addition to Betamax tapes of Sesame Street and Saturday Morning Cartoons from the U.S. kept me company and expanded my world with slice-of-life narratives.  I wish more shows like this still existed today.  One of those narratives was a video segment called “Bangkang Papel” which in Filipino means “paper boat”.  A lot of children in the Philippines don’t have expensive toys to play with so they often make their own and folded paper boats were (before mobile phone games)  just as popular here as paper planes are in the US.  Today’s beauty post is a bit different in light of what’s happened because of the rain.  The flooding here in the Philippines has caused a lot of people to lose their homes and relatives.  Some have been relocated temporarily to cramped relief centers.  I’ve decided to keep it simple today and just share a few current favorites brought to you in a “bangkang papel”.  Two of these I’ve fully reviewed, the rest I’ve only just mentioned.

CLOCKWISE: K-Palette 1-Day Tattoo Eyeliner (BLACK but in Limited Edition Pink Polka Dot Tube), K-Palette Kuma Concealer, Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Waterproof Mascara, Kai Beauty-M Razor (Japan Home Center), Clinique Shimmer Stripes Powder blush in 01 Peony (free travel sample size, a gift).  Reviewed items are linked in bold.

1. K-Palette 1-Day Tattoo Eyeliner –    I’ll keep all these mentions short and simple because I don’t have it in me 100% to fully expound on cosmetics today because of the storm calamity.  This is a great, easy-to-use liquid eyeliner that’ll help you get a nice sharp cat’s eye. K-Palette products are available in Beauty Bar. (upcoming full review)

2. K-Palette Kuma Concealer –   – This concealer performs similarly to the peach color correctors of MAC and Bobbi Brown, it instantly lifts and corrects dark circles, comes in 3 shades with skin benefits, and is a smooth but concentrated consistency like Michelle Phan’s favorite Amazing Concealer. (upcoming full review.)

3. Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Waterproof Mascara My favorite everyday mascara right now because it separates, defines, holds curl, is waterproof so doesn’t smudge (on me, may vary), AND big plus, isn’t a pain to remove.

4. Clinique Shimmer Stripes Powder blush in 01 Peony (free travel sample size, a gift) –This was simply given to me by my Ninang, it’s a free sample size of Clinique Shimmer Stripes Powder blush.  These aren’t glittery or even “shimmery” in a pixie dust way don’t worry, they’re a pearl-to-satin finish and the Peony shade gives cheeks that mild hint of rosy.

Right now many districts and provinces in Luzon are in a state of calamity due to the heavy rains these last few days.  I may or may not be as active on the blog this week and some personal posts might go up.  Let’s offer up prayers of thanksgiving for ourselves who are healthy, clean, and dry and prayers of compassion and mercy for people who have lost their loved ones, homes, hope, and joy.  God, please be merciful and show us what more we can do to help people in need not just at this time but from now on everyday that we have life in us.  Amen.  To give us hope that majority of the Philippines can find joy again in simple things here is that video of Bangkang Papel from Batibot that has been on my mind for the past few days amidst all the chaotic reports from the news.  Somewhere, somehow, families and children will find peace and joy again which is what this video brings home very well.  Once upon a time, rain wasn’t always such a burden.  This is a reminder of a time when we once actually even looked forward to the rain which could bring joy when it wouldn’t overwhelm us.

If you still have loved ones that need rescuing or simply want to help Luzon recover from this calamity check my previous post HERE for a list of hotlines and relief plus donation center details.

Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Waterproof Mascara – Reunited with My Favorite Daily Mascara

I went through about 2 or 3 tubes of Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Waterproof mascara in late high-school to college (1999-2003), that being said it was obviously a no-fail go-to mascara for me.  My memory is kind of blank on how mom and I both had several tubes of this (and then later on L’oreal Telescopic) during that period of my life since it wasn’t available here in the Philippines, or was it (someone correct me if I’m wrong)?  Because if it wasn’t here locally, it can only mean that my Ninang who goes to the U.S. very often probably gave us a multi-pack of this mascara.  To my knowledge this is available right now only in the U.S. and if you’re looking for simple “pasalubong” choices make sure this is one of them.

This is not one of Maybelline’s brightly colored tube mascaras you’ll see plastered across the pages of recent magazines with crazy-ass wand morphing here and there.  This gives performance without the hype and I think it’s one of the most overlooked mascaras in the drugstore market in the U.S., but just the fact that it’s still part of the mascara range up to now proves that people just KEEP BUYING IT or repurchasing it.  The label has slightly changed in that the lettering is smaller but the tube and colorway is exactly the same, silver and navy.  The long wand makes art directing lashes quite foolproof.  I then realized that this one I spotted via Ebayhas been updated, it has Vitamin E in the formula.  Low density lashes may prefer the Volum Express range for more thickness, but medium density to thick lashes will love this mascara that is “very natural-looking…” but noticeable according to Mom.   All I remember is, Mom and I  absolutely loved it all the way through, ’til our tubes could give us no more.  That being said, when the apocalypse hits, I’d be glad if I could ration a few tubes of this HG (holy grail) mascara because of sentimental value and because it keeps my lashes curled but touchable and feathery soft without smudging.    Read more to see photos of me wearing my all-time favorite.… To full post & COMMENTS...

What’s In It? – MY Full Personal Makeup Kit!

This is a bit anti-climactic dontcha’ think?  It ought to have been one of my first posts perhaps, but then again…over time I’ve collected some really interesting makeup items that work since I’m a makeup professional (folio here) and part-time beauty blogger.  A few of my blogger friends can’t seem to keep their hands off my stash when I’m around for an event and of course it evolves frequently.  Here, however, is my current collection.  There’s one item I took out coz I don’t really use it.  I’ll make a quick mention later.

I use one of Muji’s clear “kikay” kits.  A lot of you must be going “Dapat ba Muji…e ang dami dami diyan na mura” oh yes I’ve had lots of those cheaper versions, the ones with zippers that tear straight off the opening after a few uses and burst or crack open at the seams and creases.  Even some from beabi didn’t work well for me.

“No more” I said, a few months back, I got this medium size, fat clear case from Muji for about Php400 that embraces all without bursting prematurely and is stitched all around with fabric.  So, here are the contents.

Generally from top to bottom, CONTENTS (Reviewed items in bold, complimentary with *) FACE: 1. Shiseido Sun Protection Foundation*, 2. Benefit Hello Flawless OxyWow Foundation*, 3. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural MED, 4. Ellana Perfect Blend Powder foundation Hazelnut Latte, 5. The BALM’S Bahama Mama bronzer/contour compact, 6. UD Primer Potion, 7. The BALM’s Time Balm for Spots, 8. MAC Studio Finish Concealer NC35, 9. Nichido Mineral Concealing Pencil, 10. ECOtools Retractable Travel Face Brush, (whats missing here for blush is my Tarte Amazonian Clay one “Dollface”*, it’s in the pocket of another bag, but it should’ve been here) LIPS: 11. Colour Collection Eye Lip and Cheek tint*, 12. The Body Shop Born Lippy Strawberry balm, 13. ZEN Organics Strawberry Lip Butter, 14. Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, 14. I’m pretty surprise at how many of these items I’ve already reviewed and that the kit contains exactly 30 items.  Of course as a follow up to this a few posts ahead I will narrow down the kit to my TOP 10 essentials.  The item I removed was the flesh colored Stila Eye pencil in topaz…it was too melty for our country, too soft.   Am more excited because I have a lot of catching up to do, I have lots of goodies to review for you guys in the next few days, sorry I’ve been busy.  I’ll make it up to you.  Stay tuned for the MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist launch and review of the lipsticks I came away with from that event 🙂… To full post & COMMENTS...
