It happens sometimes in the industry, a certain product is named something, but what it’s called is not entirely accurate or complete. I realized this when I was confused on how to use Thai drugstore brand IN2IT’s Makeup Remover Cream. I thought it was supposed to work like cold cream at removing makeup, but leaving it on my face after it moved the makeup around didn’t feel right. Eventually, I spotted the magic word that jumped out at me in the instructions on the back of the tube: RINSE. This is got me extremely excited.
IN2IT MAKEUP REMOVER CREAM PHP399.00, SM Beauty. Key ingredients: extracts of lemon, cucumber, grape, apple, olive oil, witch hazel, chamomile, aloe Vera and Vitamin E. MADE IN THAILAND
I’ve been using this for the past 5 days in place of my CLINIQUE cleansing balm (it’s easier to bring along because it’s in a tube). I rinsed and discovered this IN2IT makeup remover cream is actually a budget cleansing balm. Read on for the full review.
So, this is as spontaneous as it gets. Sleepover = true skincare stories. Ever so randomly last night, a teenage cousin of mine with acne-prone, reactive skin spilled the details on her current skincare swat team. The line-up is to say frankly, not edited but as real as can be, because they were all on her bathroom counter in sincere disarray from daily use. We gathered them ’round to compress for this family photo (I really have a good laugh inside when people yell out “compress” because it’s just everyone’s thing). I’ve seen my cousin’s face months before all this, it was shiny, sensitive, and eruptive. This time though, her face was clear and not shiny with no sign of acne on the horizon.
Please note that this selection is not used simultaneously and was formed gradually with the added supervision of her dermatologist. The products may or may not work for you in the same way or may not be recommended for you. Read on for the full regimen post and what she told me about each product.… To full post & COMMENTS...
Let’s save our skin from the early onslaught of sun damage this summer (and all year round), shall we? Here are five locally available non-sticky sunscreens to choose from depending on your skin type. Prices vary greatly but I chose each one based on suited skin type…five for five.
Cetaphil DAYLONG Light Gel SPF50, NIVEA Sun Protect & Moisture, VMV Hypoallergenics Armada Sport 70, Shiseido Wet Force S SPF50, Belo Sun Expert SPF40 Face
Out of these five sunscreens I have used three. The two other sunscreens I have applied but not tested under long sun exposure but people I know and am about to mention have used them already. Read on to get a closer look at which skin type each sunscreen suits and why I like them.… To full post & COMMENTS...

We had the Thanksgiving giveaway last year and I had the pleasure of personally delivering the loot to the winner Rafflecopter chose for the first time. She was really happy and I was pleasantly surprised because she was pregnant! I know I’ve said this more than once but this Hot Valentine Giveaway is by far one of my most exciting giveaways yet. A couple of the prizes are items that are so good they’ll make you wonder why I’m giving them away. Just to be clear, the contents of these pouches are not just Sleek and Happy Skin products. I always first take my share of the products to review or use to honor the brands. Both pouches are jam-packed with so many different brands for this giveaway. I mainly chose these pouches because they’re so well made. Both these pouches of skincare and makeup will go to one winner. To join the giveaway you can enlist in the Rafflecopter widget at the end, but first…see an overview of the goodies!
BRANDS INCLUDED: Benefit Cosmetics, Sleek Cosmetics, Maybelline, Nuxe, Shiseido, Mario Badescu, K-Palette, Leaders Skincare, LUSH, Belo, Pond’s L’Occitane, L’Oreal, Tony Moly, Happy Skin Cosmetics, Santee, Pixi by Petra, L’Oreal, Revlon.

One of the 2016 NIVEA Summer Outing’s highlights which certainly delivered on “Aww” points when it was presented to us was the reveal of the NIVEA Sun Doll, a toy developed to teach children the value of applying sun protection. Imagine our juvenile squeals of delight when we were told after being shown this official Nivea Sun Doll video that we were each about to be given our very own Nivea doll. Yes, girl and boy dolls are available.
Nivea Philippines has not yet confirmed their entry into local retail, but they’d most certainly be very, very welcome here, especially before summer. Read on to see how UV affects the doll to raise kids’ awareness and watch the official video.… To full post & COMMENTS...
January 2016 is being all annoying and walking briskly ahead, so we all know what that means. In a fluke of some sort last year I managed to NOT post my 2015 summer holiday skincare favorites while being in Balesin. I kept the evidence as shot from the Mykonos villas. As you can see, I also thought the title of this post should be island getaway inspired *thunder cracks*.
YVES ROCHER Detoxifying Teas toning lotion, DIORSKIN Nude Tan BB CREME, Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream (ointment), Nivea Sun Immediate Sunscreen SPF50, Tarte Maracuja Oil, Macadamia Rejuvenating Sulfate-free shampoo, Bioderma Cicabio Soothing Creme moisturizer (suitable for babies), Avene Eau Thermale Gentle Milk Cleanser, Clarisonic Mia 2
That last one was the summer that did a What’s In Her Bag interview with Tricia Centenera-Valenciano and when I fell back in love with my Clarisonic which I bought on foot in Macy’s NYC in 2014 (it seems just like yesterday, yikes), some don’t agree with using it or find it too harsh. I just find the Clarisonic extremely suitable in the summer. I don’t use it for the rest of the year unless I’m having a heavy makeup sort of month. When I cleanse my face after a sunny day out while traveling I want to be sure I get all the sunblock lotion, sweat, sea scum, beach bits, and light makeup off my skin before my serums and facial oil at bedtime, so I use the Clarisonic. That’s to help provide a clean canvas for another layer of sunscreen the next day. If you don’t want to get all gadgety alternately a facial flannel or baby face towel soaked in warm water with a good emulsifying cleanser should also get the grime off your face. What I like about having the Clarisonic is there’s nothing left over to launder.… To full post & COMMENTS...
Okay, here we go, a review of something Mom brought home. I chose to talk about this for now because there’s not too much global hype or flamboyance attached to this, it’s one of those emo-less, no-frill products that just works and supplies helpful hydration with hyaluronic acid, the now famous acid known for holding 10,000 times its weight in water. Hydrating my face keeps my allergies away, even in a humid country that does the job for me. You can tell just by looking at this that you have to try it to know what it’s about. It’s the sort of brand you perceive might have been around for ages, but Japanese brand Hada Labo (check out the SG website here which I feel is the best one)was only launched in 2004 and since then has become one of Japan’s drugstore skincare market leaders with effective, fragrance-free products that fly off the shelves every few seconds. Hada Labo began as a joint venture between US research company Mentholatum and Rohto, the brand may be relatively young but both those companies have been around for over 100 years. Mom brought their Hyaluronic Gokujyun Lotion (LIGHT version) home for me a few days ago from the Japan drugstore giant Matsumoto Kiyoshi. I asked for the LIGHT version because of my sensitive skin and it being the less heavy, less tacky/dewy take on the original formula. I’ve also embedded the TV commercial of the MOIST original formula below, some of the digital effects are quite exaggerated (the TVC made me giggle because I used to work in digital effects for TVCs) but it gets the message across in a playful way and the product does work. The mood of the brand speaks of simple, minimal, affordable yet effective ph-balanced skincare.
“While it looks clear like a toner or makeup remover, it’s actually a moisturizer that helps prepare your skin for better absorption of other HADA LABO products. The HADA LABO Goku-jyun Lotion Light can also be used as a standalone moisturizer with a lighter texture than HADA LABO Goku-jyun Lotion. You can choose HADA LABO Goku-jyun Lotion or Light Lotion, depending on your preference. (5.7 fl oz/170 mL)”- HADA LABO USA
JAPANESE SRP: ¥1,260 (reference online but from 2009) /under Php600- Php700 for 170ml bottle
The reason why I requested this in particular is because my online “skin twin” (same skin type and same skin tone), as I’d like to say it, is London-based Japanese blogger Yasumi aka “Fushigi Lady/Worship Blues” and she likes and trusts this Hada Labo Gokujyun hydration lotion (she uses MOIST, not LIGHT) over any other, even Hydraluron which she’s tried. Yasumi, the blogger behind Worshipblues.com, blogs about simple but pretty lifestyle delights from homecooked meals, noodle soup finds, the whispers of run-down buildings, and even stuff from fashion to random beauty raves. It was she who recommended the Pai Rosehip Facial Oil that works for me. That is the only facial oil I use 2x a week to calm down my skin overnight, the effect on me by that was exactly how she described the effect on her to be, so I trust her.
