It’s nowhere near hot here in Laguna yet, especially at night, but I’ve got my sunscreen regime on standby for summer. Yes, it’ll be here to melt your lipsticks before you know it. If you’ve been wondering how on earth you might still avail of all these January sales after the vast holiday sale season…here it is, get good sunscreen, skincare, and your tan base shade now. Check out those luxury counters where they might be selling some travel gift sets with some miniatures. Here are a few sunscreens I own and use (that aren’t expired LOL). Some know-it-alls have been debating the use of sunscreen etc., I, too, have had those thoughts swimming in my brain. I don’t believe in “avoiding the sun at all costs” geez, hello, I live on this beautiful planet called earth! What sort of fanatic vanity would cause me to completely hide from the sun? I don’t mind tanning but seriously I just don’t want to burn. Let’s not be pretentious, not everyone on earth has access to advanced sun protection by the likes of Institut Esthederm. For now I’ll be fine with these.
It just occured to me that I was blessed with all of these sunscreens* one by one. Pevonia Botanica’s SPF30 facial sunscreen smells divinely clean and isn’t sticky and it feels intimately formulated when you put it on. These guys were also lovely enough to send me a holiday gift (you guys rock). Since Pevonia’s SPF is not so high it’s good for days when you go in and out of doors running errands rather than being out in the sun all day. The Banana Boat Ultra Protect SPF80 with aloe I use on my body…sometimes my face, too, if I’d rather bring just one sunscreen with me, it’s got high SPF so more than likely i’ll have it with me for a full day of outdoor activities. It is also not sticky, dries semi-matte to matte, and if I recall correctly it doesn’t run down your face into your eyes if you sweat. The Belo Sun Expert (Face) SPF 40 is fragrance-free also not that sticky and its handy size is super convenient for dunking into your handbag. Cristalle Belo, Vicki’s daughter, personally handed this bottle of Sun Expert to me and gave one to Mom as well when we were at a football game last year. I use it usually when I need medium sun protection on both my face and shoulders. Both the Banana Boat and Belo Sun Expert sunscreen lotions are available at leading groceries and department stores nationwide, I believe they’re both just under the Php200 mark (correct me if I’m wrong). Pevonia products are available at their partner spa branches.

Last year women abroad pulled Essie’s Mint Candy apple off shelves in droves. There is evidently something mesmeric about pastel, macaron-inspired shades. It’s almost like…given how perfect the shades are, you can almost taste what you see. These women (you included?) all just went mad for either mint or coral pink that season. The thing about Essie’s cool mint shade last year is that it was delightfully sweet looking on fingertips…fair slash pale fingertips that is. One look at Mint Candy Apple and I knew it was too pasty light a mint green for my medium oriental undertone hands to wear with grace…it was also too (groans) what’s the word…green (lol). This similar (but in no way a dupe) shade by Estee Lauder is better on me.
With no voluntary search a better suited, on the nose Tiffany, robin’s egg mint blue shade entered my life when Estee Lauder invited me last time to a nail pampering session. Estee Lauder polishes might be high end and not commonly on your luxe nail brands to try list…but people should try these more because they have an AMAZING chip resist formula. It’s a thick formula but lasts longer than others and whatever shade it might be holds that lovely finish well beneath any light all the time. Lo and behold, Dilettante, this slightly deeper bluish mint came home with me in a random loot bag. This color will be available from Estee Lauder counters beginning April 2013, right smack in the middle of summer. See the sun?

I quickly told Dad not to throw the cocktail “umbrellettes” we scored from some fruit shakes, because I had to show you guys this little lot I love with a bit of summer flair.
Clockwise: 1.) Evian Natural Mineral Water “Brumisateur” Facial Spray 50 ml FROM PCX Php189.00, 2.) Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick SPF 15 US$17 FROM StrawberryNET 3.) Clean & Clear Oil Control Film pink blot sheets, Grapefruit Scented Php100+ FROM PCX
Two days ago that day was recorded as the hottest day of the year for the Philippines. Truth be told I’ve only used 2 of the 3 items here so far because I just recently bought the blot sheets and have been simply sniffing the box every time I have it because of the lovely citrus grapefruit scent, these also come in a blue unscented version. The most used item in this lot so far is the Elizabeth Arden Lip Protectant Stick. I like it so much because for me it’s the balm ABOVE ALL NON-ORGANIC BALMS if I were to categorize it correctly. It’s a luxurious product that really soothes the lips and since it’s in stick form it’s a less messy way to apply Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour cream on your lips without it oozing everywhere.
This travel-friendly size of Evian spray is quite nostalgic. I remember when the bottle used to be different and my grandmother and aunts had big ones on their dressing tables. I’d crumple up my little face in anticipation of a refreshing spritz from one of these. For lots of people it’s a bit of a novelty and a “waste” because it isn’t a refillable bottle and the idea of spraying high end mineral water on one’s face doesn’t cut it I guess. For me though this feels really SOOTHING, there’s something about the spritzer and the mineral water cooling the surface of my face, it’s a really relaxing, calming feeling especially since the heat has been so unbearable. I think the bigger size of this spray is a bit of an overkill though which is why I opted for this travel-friendly 50ml bottle. For best results stick one in the fridge for a few hours to get the most out of the cool part. I was actually supposed to throw in once again my current favorite Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation in the group shot for this one but it was already part of my large Summerization feature and that was the 2nd time I talked about it already. What are your travel size favorites now this summer? Do you have any in particular?

The heat is on! I’ve been wanting to do this post for a few days now, but the lazy summer mood got to me. One or two of these items are new but I’ve been using them practically everyday since I got it, and two of the items are almost empty.
From left (reviewed items in bold): 1. Shikai Natural Color Care Shampoo, 2. Maybelline VolumExpress HyperCurl Waterproof Mascara, 3. The Body Shop Banana Conditioner, 4. BeFine Gentle Cleanser, 5. Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation, 6. Bioderma Sensibio H2O, 7. Nivea Smoothy Cream calming moisturizer, 8. Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream, 9. MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural baked/pressed powder in shade MEDIUM. (dapat ginawa ko nang 10 para nicer, pero these were the only ones that were top of mind at the moment)
1. Shikai Natural Color Care Shampoo – I picked this up at S&R, I forget now whether it was Fort or Alabang, but both outlets should have it. It’s about Php500 and I like that it’s a natural lathering, UV shielding color care formula with a light scent and with an ingredients list that isn’t as long as your leg. I’ll review it soon. They also have a normal variant for untreated hair.
2. Maybelline VolumExpress HyperCurl Waterproof Mascara – I’ve reviewed this na in the past and I’m liking it even more now. It’s a great ALL-AROUND mascara that holds curl, isn’t too gloopy, doesn’t clump and gives just the right of volume without smudging.
3. The Body Shop Banana Conditioner - I LOVE THIS. Basically, this is how good it is, it’s got that yummy tropical scent, if you like bananas and a bit of coconut, I don’t think there’s coconut but something in it smells similar. It’s made my color-treated hair feel like untreated healthy hair. So far I don’t get the “frizzy” dryness that usually accompanies colored hair and I’ve got bounce and shine. Bananas in Pajamas, gotta give it to ‘em. I use this every other day when shampooing. I don’t shampoo everyday to let my hair and scalp be themselves for a bit, chemical-free at least for a day in between and also to avoid unnecessary hair-fall. I’m also not a sweaty person so that’s not disgusting for me to have a non-shampoo day. They’re on sale 50% off until April 26.
4. BeFine Gentle Cleanser – I had to switch over my facial cleanser months ago because my face was suddenly mildly rejecting the Clean & Clear foaming glycerin facial wash I’ve loved for years. I think it just needed a break from unnatural chemicals. So I picked up this BeFine Gentle Cleanser from Beauty Bar, which isn’t cheap at Php900 for 100ml but it lasted me a LONG time (2-3months) because of its economical pump. It’s a paraben free, cruelty free cleanser made of mint, oats, rice and sugar. It took some getting used to because of the minty scent on the face when lathering up, a bit like the scent of a good minty toothpaste, but there’s no annoying menthol cooling feel, don’t worry. My skin feels light, refreshed and ready for a little moisturizer and I don’t get the annoying itch after.

It’s actually strange that I’m posting this review first because this is part of a batch of sponsored items that arrived for me from StrawberryNET. Normally I’d present the group arrival first before individually reviewing the items, but this foundation was just so beautiful in finish and so perfect for me I just had to put it up to show you already. StrawberryNET contacted me then sent me on a sponsored $50.00 “shopping spree” on their site (I took forever in choosing) as part and parcel of a thank you for featuring them in the past and also requested continued support in blogging bout them once I received the items I chose, more on that when I blog bout the group. This Shiseido Sun Protection foundation is my most prized “purchase” from the loot that StrawberryNET paid for.
ON THE BOX: “Resists perspiration, water, and oil to maintain a soft matte look on skin, even during outdoor activities. Glides on smoothly and evenly; feels non-sticky and feather-light.” I’m telling you now, that sweet stuff written on the box turned out to be true, for me at least.
Thin, runny bases with excellent medium to full coverage are a booming revolution in the makeup world. You can politely ask this one to stand beside the likes of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and Estee Lauder’s New Invisible Fluid foundation (which Lisa Eldridge demonstrated in this video), those foundations both come in shaker bottles as well with proper nozzles instead of pumps for the runny formula. It’s practically flawless and to my delight, and with a little help from viewing another blog Delicate Hummingbird the foundation shade I chose online SP40 matched me perfectly (author has the same skin color as I do but sadly has stopped blogging as of Jan, dunno why *depressed*) normally with MAC I’m an NC30-35. Read more for the full post to see photos of me wearing this lovely foundation.
