THE CAMPAIGN SORTIE BEAUTY EDIT

I’ll be jetsetting tomorrow and I’m just starting to get my gear together and charge everything like crazy.  I can barely remember what it was like to move stealthily sometimes from vehicle to vehicle on the campaign trail and document behind the scenes during the peak of summer.  I remember being armed with miniDV tapes and a camcorder.  I recall running alongside pickup vehicles to catch up, sometimes having to run and climb into the back before the whole convoy left me behind.  We’re not exactly Katniss this year, but we’ll have to step up.  You’re looking at my beauty picks for Kiko Pangilinan’s upcoming campaign sortie.  From what I know, it’s going to be hot, hot, hot!

SortieStash_02

The book is about Kiko Pangilinan’s 2007 campaign when he decided to run as an independent candidate and won.  It was just nice to throw in a throwback.  This year he is running on the slate of the Liberal Party.  In 2007 I was just barely developing an interest in makeup and beauty so I have no recollection of what I brought that time.  Read on for a closer look at this edit and the full list.

GOOD DESERT ROSE FAVES ON GOOD FRIDAY

There are a couple of new makeup things I’ve been testing out and liking quite a bit.  At the moment, I’m still developing a look to maybe present next for a video tutorial, today’s look is on its way there but I might amplify it a bit next time for video.  This post will focus on one of these bits in particular, an item I already blogged about in 2011.

NEWFaves_01

WHAT I HAVE ON, CLOCKWISE: NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator  (Gleam), Laura Mercier Infusion de Rose Lip Balm, Fanny Serrano (original, no longer available) lash curler, NYX BB Cream, Catrice Sun Matte Bronzing Powder, L’Oreal False Lash Butterfly Waterproof Mascara, FS Features & Shades eyeshadow in “Frosted Chic”, Maybelline Fashion Brow mascara in Deep Brown, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Abu Dhabi” (reported dupe for Kylie Dolce) Php390,   Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in “Sand Dune”, FS Features & Shades Kohl Eye Pencil in “Caramel”(Shade like MAC Brunette brow pencil, used for eyes and brows), FS Features & Shades Powder Foundation in “Mocha” (new packaging), Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush only to set FS powder under eyes (instructional video for brush and powder foundation here, pressing motion)

Without my even having to mention, you’ll spot that there’s a definite desert rose shade theme running through this selection.  Please note that when I say Desert Rose theme I don’t mean the actual desert rose flower (which is actually a bright fuschia) but more of like my more naked, blushed, fictional take on a desert rose.  I also particularly mention the preferred matte liquid lipstick formula I’ve loved for 5 years.  Read on to see the look I put on today, it’s still wearable and natural, but I’ve switched up products a bit.… To full post & COMMENTS...

MY BUDGET SUMMER MAKEUP EDIT 2016

I get the random comment about my makeup recommendations being safe for normal and clear skin types.  A good number of you out there, I’ve observed, prefer more coverage.  So, for today’s budget  summer makeup look I am sporting more coverage and a heavier less dewy finish, more than what I’d personally wear.  For those among you who like things more packed in and shine-free I give you this edit.

FIVE UNDER THE SUN FACTS ABOUT ME AND YOU

I’ve never been the most toned beach bum out there but I’ve loved summers in the Philippines ever since my tender years.  My parents took me to the beach every year until I was a teenager at least 2-3 times a year.

Bellevue Hotel Bohol

Swimsuit by Roxy Ph, shades by Sunnies (gifts from both brands).

I thought I’d just let loose and tell you a couple of real things about myself and summer then you can tell me your 5 summery facts in the comments.  Scoot over, Olaf.… To full post & COMMENTS...

HOT VALENTINE Beauty Giveaway 2016 | CLOSED FEB.10

We had the Thanksgiving giveaway last year and I had the pleasure of personally delivering the loot to the winner Rafflecopter chose for the first time.  She was really happy and I was pleasantly surprised because she was pregnant!  I know I’ve said this more than once but this Hot Valentine Giveaway is by far one of my most exciting giveaways yet.  A couple of the prizes are items that are so good they’ll make you wonder why I’m giving them away.  Just to be clear, the contents of these pouches are not just Sleek and Happy Skin products.  I always first take my share of the products to review or use to honor the brands.  Both pouches are jam-packed with so many different brands for this giveaway.  I mainly chose these pouches because they’re so well made.  Both these pouches of skincare and makeup will go to one winner.  To join the giveaway you can enlist in the Rafflecopter widget at the end, but first…see an overview of the goodies!

I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU USED LAST SUMMER

January 2016 is being all annoying and walking briskly ahead, so we all know what that means.  In a fluke of some sort last year I managed to NOT post my 2015 summer holiday skincare favorites while being in Balesin.  I kept the evidence as shot from the Mykonos villas.  As you can see, I also thought the title of this post should be island getaway inspired *thunder cracks*.

Processed with VSCOcam with c2 preset

YVES ROCHER Detoxifying Teas toning lotion, DIORSKIN Nude Tan BB CREME, Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream (ointment), Nivea Sun Immediate Sunscreen SPF50, Tarte Maracuja Oil, Macadamia Rejuvenating Sulfate-free shampoo, Bioderma Cicabio Soothing Creme moisturizer (suitable for babies), Avene Eau Thermale Gentle Milk Cleanser, Clarisonic Mia 2

That last one was the summer that did a What’s In Her Bag interview with Tricia Centenera-Valenciano and when I fell back in love with my Clarisonic which I bought on foot in Macy’s NYC in 2014 (it seems just like yesterday, yikes), some don’t agree with using it or find it too harsh.  I just find the Clarisonic extremely suitable in the summer.  I don’t use it for the rest of the year unless I’m having a heavy makeup sort of month.  When I cleanse my face after a sunny day out while traveling I want to be sure I get all the sunblock lotion, sweat, sea scum, beach bits, and light makeup off my skin before my serums and facial oil at bedtime, so I use the Clarisonic.  That’s to help provide a clean canvas for another layer of sunscreen the next day.  If you don’t want to get all gadgety alternately a facial flannel or baby face towel soaked in warm water with a good emulsifying cleanser should also get the grime off your face.  What I like about having the Clarisonic is there’s nothing left over to launder.… To full post & COMMENTS...

Summer Teaser | Sunscreen On Board

It’s nowhere near hot here in Laguna yet, especially at night, but I’ve got my sunscreen regime on standby for summer.  Yes, it’ll be here to melt your lipsticks before you know it. If you’ve been wondering how on earth you might still avail of all these January sales after the vast holiday sale season…here it is, get good sunscreen, skincare, and your tan base shade now. Check out those luxury counters where they might be selling some travel gift sets with some miniatures.  Here are a few sunscreens I own and use (that aren’t expired LOL).  Some know-it-alls have been debating the use of sunscreen etc., I, too, have had those thoughts swimming in my brain.  I don’t believe in “avoiding the sun at all costs” geez, hello, I live on this beautiful planet called earth!  What sort of fanatic vanity would cause me to completely hide from the sun?  I don’t mind tanning but seriously I just don’t want to burn.  Let’s not be pretentious, not everyone on earth has access to advanced sun protection by the likes of Institut Esthederm.  For now I’ll be fine with these.

It just occured to me that I was blessed with all of these sunscreens* one by one.  Pevonia Botanica’s SPF30 facial sunscreen smells divinely clean and isn’t sticky and it feels intimately formulated when you put it on. These guys were also lovely enough to send me a holiday gift (you guys rock).  Since Pevonia’s SPF is not so high it’s good for days when you go in and out of doors running errands rather than being out in the sun all day. The Banana Boat Ultra Protect SPF80 with aloe I use on my body…sometimes my face, too, if I’d rather bring just one sunscreen with me, it’s got high SPF so more than likely i’ll have it with me for a full day of outdoor activities.  It is also not sticky, dries semi-matte to matte, and if I recall correctly it doesn’t run down your face into your eyes if you sweat.  The Belo Sun Expert (Face) SPF 40 is fragrance-free also not that sticky and its handy size is super convenient for dunking into your handbag. Cristalle Belo, Vicki’s daughter, personally handed this bottle of Sun Expert to me and gave one to Mom as well when we were at a football game last year. I use it usually when I need medium sun protection on both my face and shoulders. Both the Banana Boat and Belo Sun Expert sunscreen lotions are available at leading groceries and department stores nationwide, I believe they’re both just under the Php200 mark (correct me if I’m wrong). Pevonia products are available at their partner spa branches.

NOTD Estee Lauder Spring 2013 | Pure Color Nails “G3 Dilettante”, Mint in Medium

Last year women abroad pulled Essie’s Mint Candy apple off shelves in droves.  There is evidently something mesmeric about pastel, macaron-inspired shades.  It’s almost like…given how perfect the shades are, you can almost taste what you see.  These women (you included?) all just went mad for either mint or coral pink that season.  The thing about Essie’s cool mint shade last year is that it was delightfully sweet looking on fingertips…fair slash pale fingertips that is.  One look at Mint Candy Apple and I knew it was too pasty light a mint green for my medium oriental undertone hands to wear with grace…it was also too (groans) what’s the word…green (lol).  This similar (but in no way a dupe) shade by Estee Lauder is better on me.

With no voluntary search a better suited, on the nose Tiffany, robin’s egg mint blue shade entered my life when Estee Lauder invited me last time to a nail pampering session.  Estee Lauder polishes might be high end and not commonly on your luxe nail brands to try list…but people should try these more because they have an AMAZING chip resist formula.  It’s a thick formula but lasts longer than others and whatever shade it might be holds that lovely finish well beneath any light all the time.  Lo and behold, Dilettante, this slightly deeper bluish mint came home with me in a random loot bag.  This color will be available from Estee Lauder counters beginning April 2013, right smack in the middle of summer.  See the sun?
